Student Response and Assessment Tools

Lesson Idea Name: All About Christmas

Content Area: Social Studies
Grade Level(s): Kindergarten
Content Standard Addressed: SSKH1 Identify the national holidays and describe the people and/or events
celebrated. a. Christmas

Technology Standard Addressed: 3- Knowledge Constructor

3c- students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create
collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions.
Selected Technology Tool:
☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☒ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☐ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)
☐ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☒ Teacher-Paced ☐ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☒ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The technology tool that I selected for my lesson plan idea will be able to support all types of learners. This
will allow for means of engagement from the UDL wheel. The students will be excited and engaged with this
technology. They will be able to look at this tool as a game, instead of an assignment that needs to be
completed. Since technology plays a major role in education, the students will be able to learn through
technology. This tool will hopefully allow them to complete the task to the best of their ability and not just
guess on the questions. After the time is up and all students have answered the question, they will be able to
receive immediate feedback and see if they answered correctly or wrong.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Prior to this activity, I will ask the students what all they know about the Christmas holiday season. I will
explain that it is a major holiday, and then proceed to ask them what their favorite thing about Christmas is.
We will then have a short whole class discussion about Christmas and everything associated with it. I will go
around the room and allow the students who feel comfortable to share some of their favorite traditions.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Student Response and Assessment Tools
During the Kahoot activity, each student will have access to their own classroom iPad. They will be doing this
activity individually, so the teacher can assess each student’s understanding. This activity is teacher-paced
because the teacher will be able to pick the amount of time that will be allowed for each question. The
students will not be able to move onto the next question until the time is up and everyone has answered.
There is a total of 8 questions in this Kahoot with 30 seconds allowed for each one. Therefore, this kahoot
should not take more than 5 minutes to complete.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
After answering each question, the students will be able to see if they answered correctly or not. Based on
the results, I can give feedback to allow the students to understand why they missed that question. This will
help the students have better clarification on the answer.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the activity, I will go over any questions that were missed by the students for clarification. The students
will not be able to see who answered the questions wrong or right. This will allow me to see where the
student’s strengths and weaknesses are on this subject. The students will then be able to ask any questions
regarding the activity that they may have.
How will the data be used?
This activity will be acted as a formative assessment. Therefore, I will collect the data for myself to see where
the misconceptions are and what re-teaching needs to be done. This will not be a graded assignment for the
students, it is just for me to understand where my students are standing with this lesson. I will go over and
review all the questions and determine the commonly missed ones among the class. I will then provide the
whole class with the correct answer and explanation if needed. The results will not be share with other
students.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
By using the Kahoot learning tool, I will be utilizing technology in my classroom and creating a technology-
based assessment. Technology is becoming more known in schools these days; therefore, I will have the
opportunity to engage my students in academic learning. I have never done this with students before, so I am
excited about incorporating it in my class one day. I hope to be able to use Kahoot to engage my students in
learning and then providing the quick and proper feedback they need.
Reflective Practice:
I believe that this lesson idea that I have created will be able to impact student learning in positive ways. It
will be able to engage the students in a fun and exciting assessment. It will also be a way for the teacher to
monitor student progress as they go through the activity. This activity will also be able to support student
learning because the teacher will be able to create other lessons based on the results from the Kahoot. To
extent this lesson, I could create a game using Smart Board, where the students must interact more with the

technology while still incorporating the technology in the lessons. This could also be used as an introductory
activity for the students to participate in.
