VC Essay Requirements:

VALUE CLAIM: THE ADVANCEMENT OF AN IDEA THAT IS SUBJECTTIVE

(SOMETHING OF TASTE, VALUE, OR PERCEPTION). THIS
MEANS THAT YOUR VC NEEDS TO USE OPINION-BASED
WORDS THAT YOU CAN PROVE “SUBJECTIVELY” NOT
“OBJECTIVELY” LIKE A FACT CLAIM.
For this VC paper, we’re actually needing you to come
up with a subjective claim, that is we WANT an
OPINION that you will back up and support with
sources that once again will be expert authorities and
credible evidence. The only real difference from the
 FC is that your CLAIM must be an OPINION. Here
are some examples of VC + Reasons (POD)

1. The Green Bay Packers are the most unique Franchise

in sports because they are (1) FAN OWNED, (2)
MANAGED LIKE A COMPANY, AND (3)
EVALUATED BY THEIR FINACIAL BOTTOM LINE.

2. The “Fifty Shades of Grey” publishing phenomenon is

significant in that it validates the modern
woman’s search for (1)______________,

(3)___________________________________
in their relationships.

3. “Deadpool” is the most INTRIGUING movie of the

last five
Years because it (1)_________________, (2)

The downside to picking your own VC topics is

that there is the temptation to treat your topic
in a superficial way. For example:

“Most animated movies are good fun for the

whole family because they (1) have engaging
 characters, (2) funny dialogue and (3) finally
and most importantly adventurous plots.”

I would rank this VC on the “DEPTH

depth to carry the weight of a high-level,

in-depth argumentative paper (see “flipping

the script” and “challenging a trend”). Show
