1. What is Larong Pinoy

Larong Pinoy are traditional games of Filipinos wherein it is mainly played in groups. Most of the time
there is a person who has to accomplish a task like finding the players who are hiding, called “taya”. It
is to be noticed that most of these games involves running, and some games have many variations in
name such as, luksong tinik can be known as luksong baka on other provinces. Some examples of
larong pinoy are taguan, agawang panyo, sipa, patintero, piko, luksong tinik, and many more.

2. Why are tradional games important?

Traditional games are part of our culture, it shows our creativeness, that even if there were no
advanced technology back then, we can entertain ourselves. This leads to preserving these games,
these are part of our history that we can share to future generations. We can teach the children that
you can have fun even if you do not use your gadgets at the same time, to make friends. It boosts the
social skills of children and teaches them the importance of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

3. What are the traditional sports in the Philippines?

The traditional sports in the Philippines are mainly influenced by nearby countries such as Indonesia.
Sipa is to be believed that it was influenced by Sepak Takraw which is a game that used rattan ball
that is to be passed on to sides until it touches the floor of the opposing team. Palo Sebo is a sport
that is mainly played during fiestas. It has a greasy pole with a prize on top, whoever reaches the prize
wins the sport. Lastly, Arnis, the national sport of the Philippines, is all about stick fighting and is
considered as a martial art.
