What:
Community development course:
In this course we will explore different exciting ideas and concepts that will help us understand what community
means to us and how do we go about building and developing one.
We will look at:
 What is community development?
 What are the factors that have an influence on a community?
 How do we identify and analyse the challenges faced by a community and what do we do about those
challenges?
 What do these words look like when we define them on our own terms: power, collective, participation,
leadership, social justice, change and transformation?

How:
I like to workshop difficult issues using engaging and interactive activities; I give tools to the participants so that they
can participate whichever way works the best for them and learn at their pace and in their own way, I believe we
need to claim our own learning spaces and I encourage all learners to do so. I am also very flexible within a clear
structure. I learn best when things are clear and I know what is expected of me so I make sure I am clear and that I
listen to the group

Who:
I am Amel and I have been working in the youth and community sector In Ireland for almost 20 years; during all that
time I have managed and coordinated projects with a focus on social justice, equality and human rights.
I have been and still am a voluntary board member on various organisations, local community development projects,
migrant rights, women’s rights; anti-racism and people power lead social change.
I am now a full time trainer and facilitator and my work focuses on transformative and compassionate
communication, community building and development, understanding diversity and solidarity building and enabling
the voice of the grass roots to sit in its power, and impact political discourse.
