Session 5
Introduction to verbs and Tenses
Overview
All tenses can be derived by using some simple chemistry like formulation. We try to
examine a few in this session.
A verb is combined with two things, when it is used in a sentence.
The first one is tense dependent (say X) and the second one is the gender specific word.
Ex: nODu means to see. nODuttane = nODu + utta + aane, means he will see.
Here, utta is the X and aane is the gender specific word.
Similarly nODuttaLe = nODu + utta + aale, means she will see.
Similarly, nODutte = nODu + utta + E, means, It will see.
Here, X = utta.
The X depends on the present, past and the future tenses. Let’s see how it is used in
detail.

For present tense, the following are the different forms for various genders and persons.
