INTRODUCTION
W elcome, and thank you for purchasing the BLACKBOX Airbus ‘Prologue’.
The purpose of this manual is to provide you with the initial information and obtain the
skills required to fly the Airbus series. We would like to point out that the Prologue version
does not simulate all the intricate systems found on these aircraft Yet, however, it contains
most of the basic systems that make it fly and operate just like a real Airbus should and we
will be adding to these systems and updating your product for free!
In the final V1.00 Airbus, all systems will be implemented and operate as accurately as
possible making it the most accurate Airbus ever created for flight simulation. We will also
provide you with a more comprehensive manual in line with an official Airline FCOM (Flight
Crew Operating Manual) that will cover all the systems and procedures, and for you to
obtain all the skills required to fly the aircraft just like the professionals would
.
The Airbus Family are complex aircraft and require a certain degree of learning to
understand how the aircraft works. During initial test flights and operations of the real
aircraft, several pilots were left baffled and sometimes unable to recover from certain
situations due to the inability to understand its complex systems and automation. So, we do
advise you to read through the manuals to fully understand and to teach yourself how to fly
one of the most advanced airliners of its time.

What makes the aircraft so unique?
The family consists of short, medium and long range, twin and 4 engine aircraft. They
consist of the A318, A319, A320, A321, A330-200, A330-300, A330-200F, A340-300 and the
biggest in the fleet The A340-600. We have also included the A330-MRTT (Multi Role
Tanker Transport) Aircraft as well for the Military flyers amongst you.
Real World Airbus Customers have the option to choose between many power plants.
From the CFM56 right up to the TRENT 500. You have the same choices with your
Blackbox Airbus Widebody Family with many different Variants to choose from and
More to come!
What made the aircraft so different and unique from other airliners was that it has the
amazing Airbus fly-by-wire (FBW) system. One other unique feature was the elimination of
the control column and its replacement by what is known as a side stick. In effect, the FBW
system completely replaces the conventional system of cables and hydraulics.
In a conventional aircraft when the pilot moves the yoke or stick or the rudder pedals, this
directly manipulates cables that displace the control surfaces. This is still used effectively on
light aircraft however on airliners since the control surfaces are bigger it requires a greater
effort from the pilot to operate, so the FBW System directly commands the hydraulic
systems. With FBW the aircraft is controlled through computers sensors. The sensors
determine the amount of deflection, or movement, needed in the control surfaces (using
data such as airplane altitude and airspeed) and send this information to hydraulic
actuators which then move the ailerons, elevators, and rudder.
The system is controlled by several dedicated computers and operates all the primary and
secondary flight controls by a combination of electronic signaling and hydraulic jacks. Very
high safety standards have been built into the flight control systems, with system
redundancy and with flight envelope protection, which will not allow maneuvers to exceed
the aircraft’s structural and aerodynamic limitations.
One other feature is that all aircraft in the Airbus family including A318, 319, 320, 321, 330
and 340 share a very similar cockpit and even the super jumbo A380 and the very latest
A350 XWB, all share the recognisable cockpit layout which makes it easier for pilots to
transition from one aircraft to another, thus saving time and money for airline companies.
Today, the Widebody Family have become and remain one of Airbus Industries’ most
popular and bestselling Medium to Long range airliners. We are sure you will see why.

THE DISPLAY MODES
When you first load your BlackBox Airbus, even if you have bought it and entered the
Key Code into the installer, you will find it is restricted and an indication of this will be
displayed on your PFD (Primary Flight Display) in one of the following ways.
Please read the information below, relating to the mode displayed and how to easily
Activate and use the full unrestricted Product.
DEMO MODE
If you haven’t yet purchased the full version you will be restricted to DEMO MODE But
you will still have Full access to All Features, controls, and functions of the Widebody
Airbus. This is to give you a taste of the Accuracy and detail built into the full product.
Your Time in the Airbus will be limited to 90 minutes per flight sim session including
preparation on the ground and the Sim will also pause every ten minutes. The screens
will change to display Demo Mode until you un-pause and you will see a countdown
timer at the top left of the Sim Window. Finally, you will only have BlackBox Liveries
available in Pre-Flight Manager and none of the other liveries will be downloadable.
You may purchase the Full Unlimited product at www.blackboxsimulation.com

NOT ACTIVATED: DEMO MODE
If you have purchased BlackBox Widebody then you should have entered your Key
Code into the Installer … However, you will see the following displayed on your PFD.
And the product will run in Demo mode only. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM! You simply
need to activate the product via the Pre-Flight Manager as an added precaution against
piracy. We hope this doesn’t inconvenience you too much but it is a step we have been
forced to take and you will only need to activate the first time you run the product.
Please read the following instruction on how to activate your BlackBox Widebody

STEERING TILLER, RUDDER AND TAXIING
Just like in the Real World, Your Blackbox Widebody Aircraft are fitted with two
separate methods of steering on the ground. You have RUDDER control as normal for
Takeoff and Landing. For taxiing, Parking and tight turns you have the STEERING
TILLER.
To set these up you will need to assign a controller to the TILLER Function. For your
convenience, we have used the Flightsim “Tail hook Handle” for this operation but you
will need to set up your control key/button to use it.
2. Scroll down the list of available controls until you find the entry
“Tail hook (up/ down) “
3. Double click the KEY or BUTTON column and set your preferred key or button, we
recommend using “T” as it is unassigned elsewhere in the sim. Alternatively, you can
also set any Joystick button or key of your choice.

The New Settings Panel- AXIS Page
When you first load your BBS Airbus you will be presented with the Settings Panel and
a message to let you know you your controllers need calibrating to the Airbus System.
You simply need to move your controller in all axis to Calibrate automatically. You can
also calibrate any sliders or levers you may have set up for flaps, speed brake etc. If
they don’t seem accurate or “flutter” a little, then you can click in the DELTA box to
increase the filtering and smooth out that control. All main controls are reversible by
clicking the invert button, and you have two options for the Tiller Steering.
Tiller rudder toggle – Uses the same controller as your assigned rudder pedals and
switches between them.
Keyboard tiller uses the default tiller keys Ctrl+Arrow, or any others you have assigned.

The New Settings Panel- THROTTLES Page
Select the Throttle Calibration tab at the top of the page and you will see this screen.
Using the same procedure as before we simply move our throttle/throttles full travel and
adjust the filtering and direction if necessary.

This completes the Quick Start Guide and you should now be ready to fly the Widebody
Airbus of your choice. We have included a tutorial flight and we Highly recommend you
use it for the first flight at least. It takes you through the correct procedures for Airbus
flying and will certainly increase your enjoyment. But you can, of course, use your own
routes at any time. You will find details of how to enter, save and load new routes in
the tutorial. But We would highly recommend continuing to the tutorial flight first to get
used to the Airbus Logic and controls. Especially if you are used to the more conventional
flying like Boeings and GA Aircraft.
