Providing better education and health services, safe drinking water, sanitation, housing, etc.

are
very important to establish the linkage between economic growth and welfare of the citizens. We
extract the data from RBI STATE FINANCES. Following 6 states are considered to map the Indian
state development in social sector services: Bihar, Jharkhand, U.P, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Gujarat.
We compare these state social services expenditure with total social sector expenditure of the
Indian state and estimate its percentage to see the overall performance of the states. My main
motive is to see the performance of Bihar in social sector performance as compared to other states
by comparing their percentage of capital and revenue expenditure with all states total social services
of the Indian states.

We also consider the state population as a percentage of total population and state social
expenditure as a percentage of total social sector expenditure. If aggregate population is more than
social sector expenditure then adequate spending is not happening, then it should be advised that
government should make more expenditure on social sector services like health, education, etc. we
also consider the MMR AND IMR.
MMR and IMR are essential indicators of healthcare of a state/nation. We try to correlate the social
sector spending of the states with their prevalent health status, indicated by their MMR and IMR
over the years.

The same can be done with respect to education, taking the literacy level, school enrolment ratio
and other indicators to judge the position of states relative to each other, and to India as a whole.
