RESUME CHEAT SHEET

LAYOUT

 Contact Information is at the top of the resume


 Career Summary including acquired skills and how they will meet the requirements
of the advertised role, the value you can bring to the organisation and a response
stating why you are the best match for the advertised role
 6-8 Key Skills that promote your strongest professional skills and qualities (check
joboutlook.gov.au to ensure your key skills match your chosen industry to work in if
required)
 Professional Experience listed in reverse - chronological order, starting with most
recent role
 Education and Training listed in reverse - chronological order
 Hobbies and Interests (only if relevant to the role you are applying for)
 At least two Referees included at the end of the resume, with either their phone
numbers provided or a statement that reads “contact numbers provided on request”

FORMAT

 Keywords and language included in the resume that matches the language in the
job advertisement
 No headers and/or footers used
 Standard fonts such as Calibri, Arial or Times New Roman used
 Proper capitalisation and punctuation used throughout the resume
 Resume has been submitted through Spell Check for any spelling and
grammatical errors
 Resume saved in Word format unless otherwise specified by the employer

AVOID

 Fancy formatting
 Abbreviations
 Graphs, tables, headers and footers- the Automated Tracking System (ATS) won’t
read these!
 Graphics and logos
