EDESSA DELA ROSA-CASTRO:

A confident and highly organized teacher

“Everything I do, someway, somehow, positively touches the lives of kids,” she says. “ I must be able to put
myself in the place of those who find learning hard.”

Edessa is the School ICT Coordinator, a teacher III of San Juan Elementary School with nine years
experienced in teaching. She took up BSED at NEUST in Cabanatuan City, “I love kids, so I decided to teach
younger kids rather than a teenager,” she said.

She is one of the best teachers in San Juan Elementary School. Last April 2, 2019, during Graduation Day,
she was recognized and identified for her exemplary performance as Outstanding Intermediate Teacher.
She was also awarded as Most Effective Grade V Teacher in Reading Filipino Category (Center C) last April
5, 2019. With her respective designation as School ICT Coordinator for seven years, she received an award
as Outstanding ICT Coordinator, last October 2017.

One of her exciting experiences with kids is, she became an entertainer to hold her pupil’s attention, then
she starts to teach her lesson.

How to be the best teacher? “She laughed!” I’m not the best teacher, I consider myself a good teacher, I
am a much better student, and I was blessed to learn valuable lessons from my students daily. I must be
able to put myself in the place of those who find learning hard.

What are your strategies in teaching? “ I used hands-on activities that teach student skills and problem-
solving because I believed in learning by doing, anchored in the theory of John Dewey.

SHERYL AZARCON-VICENTE: A DETERMINED TEACHER

“Teachers who love teaching teach children who love learning.”

Sheryl is a kindergarten teacher of San Juan Elementary School, and three years in teaching. She promoted
as Teacher II last December 2018. She took up her BEED at Araullo University in Cabanatuan City, and she
is taking up Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education at College of Immaculate Conception.

“As a Kindergarten teacher I have a lot of the same responsibilities of other teachers, but also I have to
take into account that many of my students will be experiencing school for the first time. I must teach
students basic skills in reading and writing in addition to showing them how to behave in the classroom
and play nicely with others.”

What is your strategy in teaching kindergarten? “I used differentiated instruction, allowing children to select
activities based on areas of interest. Offering choices is an excellent motivator for kids. Small-group work is one
of the most effective ways to meet the needs of diverse learners in large class settings.” I also instruct my
children on necessary skills, including shapes, colors, numbers, and letters.”

How do you manage your pupils? “I plan and execute a curriculum that suits for small children. I also outline
classroom schedules that balance physical activity, rest and playtime.”

“They are so sweet and innocent,” she says about her observation of her pupils.
“It must be fun to play with the kids.” I do have fun teaching, and we do play in Kindergarten! I am very
blessed to be in a school that supports the importance of play at this age.

EVANGELINE SALVATIERRA-LIZO:” A Energetic Teacher”

“If I can do something that makes people move forward positively, then I feel I’ve done my job.”

Evangeline, a Teacher III, is one of the proficient teachers of San Juan Elementary School, she is 15 years
in teaching. She took up BEED at Central Luzon State University in the Science City of Munoz. She also had
45 units of Master of Arts in Guidance and Counselling in Araullo University last 2010.

Do you consider yourself as an effective teacher based on your experience? “ I believe myself a good
teacher because I develop productive relationships with my students – they get to know them and take a
particular interest in their overall development and progress.

Do you have achievement in teaching? “ I believe that my greatest achievement as a teacher is a

wholesome person. A person who teaches and be able to be appreciated, listen to, and value to the
students who gain so much by learning what I have taught.” Also, also respect through dedication to
quality of work.
