On July 4, 1776, our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence and set forth a bold

vision for a nation founded on democracy, committed to promoting freedom, and devoted to the
protection of liberty for all.

Today I hope you will join me in celebrating this Independence Day for the fireworks and the barbecue, but
also for what today represents, our national experiment in Democracy.
