1 Machine operation and maintenance instruction
1.1 Summary
The basic arrangements of this series CNC lathe:
GSK-980TDb CNC system of GUANGZHOU CNC EQUIPMENT CO.,LTD
X-axis, Z-axis are Guangzhou CNC servo driver and servo motor respectively.
Huichuan or Hitachi frequency, frequency spindle motor
Hydraulic chuck, Hydraulic tailstock (or pneumatic chuck, pneumatic tailstock)
Four , six or eight electric or hydraulic turret.
It can be allocated equipments such as automatic lubrication, door protection,
tailstock, limit, mobile hand impulse generator and warning light etc.
Hereinafter the introductions concerned to the CNC machines are all taken the
example of system GSK-980TDb. If machine operator allocates other models,
please refer to the corresponding user guide.
The operation and programme relevant to system GSK-980TDb, details as per
“GSK-980TDb lathe user guide”.
The lathe operator station, system mainframe and control panel are installed on
the shields. The driver elements of machine are installed in the electrical cabinet
on the back of lathe, and the heavy current elements such as contact device, circuit
breaker, fuse box, control transformer and connector board are all installed in the
electrical cabinet.
There is a scavenging axial fan on the side of electrical cabinet, which to
guarantee the electrical cabinet radiate effectively and to ensure the electrical units
work in normal conditions.
The lathe power supply: Please refer to the “ Power supply ” on the cover page
The lathe using control voltage as below:
1) Introducing two phase power from three phase drive power as the main supply
for AC contactor coil.
2) According to servo driver transformer got AC220V, which as the power of
CNC system, servo driver and at the same time as the power for electrical
cabinet axial fan motor, lathe working light and lathe lubrication equipments.
3) System internal switch power is regulated the direct current +24V and it is the
system working power, in order to control the input-output signal and control
the actions of relay.
4) The switches power V1 (+24V) is the working power for solenoid valve

1.2 Machine operation


1.2.1 Operating requirements before the first start of machine
1.2.1.1 Power connection
Before using the machine, The operator should read the statements carefully and
check whether the electrical equipment are in good conditions and the installation,
connection, plug, and earth inside and outside of the electrical cabinet reliable or
not. To confirm first the field power is the same with machine power, to introduce
the machine and let the power wire access to machine from the lower right corner
of heavy electrical cabinet, then to connect to the XT1 below the machine main
power switch QF1.

1.2.1.2 Makeup and break of NC Power
1.2.1.2.1 Makeup of NC power
When operator close the electrical cabinet door and turn on the main power switch
QF1 to “ON” position, then turn on the power of the frequency, main transformer
TM, press the green button of the lathe operational panel “system power –on”,
then the contact device KM1 is picked-up, the driver units and CNC system
connected with power.
1.2.1.2.2 Break of NC power
To confirm the display of CNC system panel LCD/MDL is non-movement, and
when every moving and rotating parts have been stopped, The machine operator
can cut off the CNC system power.
Press the red button of machine operational panel “system power-off”
The button bright, and the contact device KM1 is switched off, the driver units
and CNC system power off.
Note: There are two types for system power switches, except the one introduced
above, there is key switch, with the same usage.
1.2.1.3 Power phase rotation adjustment
While connecting power to CNC system, check the oil pressure gauge on the
hydraulic station (oil filled), or open the cooling water pump by JOG mode, in
order to judge the power phase. If the oil pressure gauge indicates normal pressure,
or cooling water pump work in good condition (water box filled), the power phase
is normal, or interchange the connections of two wires among the three phase
power wires.
1.2.1.4 Other detective and debugging work
Refer to the “electric principle diagram”, and check the magnitude of voltage.
According to the GSK980TDb CNC lathe user guide and machine electric
principle diagram, to check the system parameters and to operate every key,
button and switch to confirm that they are good.
After starting the machine, if LCD screen has no any alarm signal, the machine is
considered to work in normal condition. If there are some mistakes, LCD screen
will displays alarm signal and according to the signal, it is easy to find the mistake
and then to solve it.

guide.

1.2.2 Operation back to reference


Machine tool optional function
After connecting power to machine every time, if operation must back to
reference, specified methods are as follows:
Before returning back to the reference, please ensure the reduction block located
on the negative direction of reduction switch and tailstock at the end of machine
track, in order to be zero and protect the carriage and tailstock from collision,
when Z-axis return back to reference.
Select “the back to Zero” work mode, and press “+X”, system moves back to
X-axis reference, after finished, the X-axis are stopped. The LCD displays the

absolute coordinate of X-axis: 0.000 and X-axis reference indicator bright, then
loose the key “+X”, the system will return to X-axis reference. The same way for
operation of “+Z” axis.

1.2.3 Function and operation of all switches and buttons on operational panel
1.2.3.1 Emergency stop button
Under urgent circumstance, please press the button “emergency”, then machine
feed, turret rotation, cooling, spindle rotation and all machine actions are stopped,
and also the screen displays alarm signal “not prepared ”. The button can
mechanical self-locking and it can be resetted only after pressing it and rotate it to
the certain angle in clockwise direction.
1.2.3.2 Makeup and break of power button
It is used to makeup or break of CNC system NC power.
1.2.3.3“Release excess of stroke” button
Machine tool optional function
When the machine tool is on the limit excess of stroke, the system will give an
alarm “not prepared” and display alarm signal. At the same time, you can use
“release excess of stroke” button to remove the fault, the specific methods are as
follows: choose “manual” or “hand wheel”, press the “release excess of stroke”
button first, then the limit axis moves a certain distance (about 20mm) from the
opposite direction of limit, the limit can be released immediately. Loosen up
“release excess of stroke” button, and the system can also be released.
1.2.3.4 Hand wheel feed
Choosing “hand wheel” work mode, the hand wheel ratio key on the system
LCD/MDI operational panel is: 0.001, 0.01, 0.1(or X1, X10, X100), the three
gears movement per corresponding hand wheel are: 1um, 10um,100um
respectively. According to the system LCD/MDI operational panel, to choose
X-axis or Z-axis, when the hand wheel rotates in clock wise direction, and the
corresponding axis will move toward positive direction. When the hand wheel
rotates in counter clock wise direction, and the corresponding axis will move
toward negative direction.

1.2.4 Other optional device instruction


1.2.4.1 Automatic lubrication
The machine tool operational function. Automatic lubrication have mechanical
and electronic. As for the automatic oiling time and interval of the mechanical and
electronic, the operator can adjust on the lubricating pump. Generally, the time of
automatic lubricating pump is 3~5 minutes, and the interval of automatic
lubricating pump is about 30minutes. The working voltage of automatic
lubrication is AC 220V
1.2.4.2 Door protection
The machine tool operational function. Under the mode of “automatic”, when the
protective door is closed, the machine operator can press “circulation start” button,
or the system will show “pause” or alarm. When the machine tool under the

automatic operation, the protective door open, then the axis feed paused, the
spindle stopped and the cooling device closed; if operator closes the protective
door, press “resetting” button to cancel alarm

1.2.5 System programming instruction, tool and cyclical starting


1.2.5.1 Adjust program to the processing component
Under the mode of “automatic”, if you want to adjust program to the processing
component, please press the “circulation start” button, then the program begin,
press the ”feed maintenance” button, the program pause, press the “circulation
start” button again, and the program operate continuously.
As for details, please refer to the GSK980TDb CNC lathe user guide
1.2.5.2 M code
As regard to M code, the details please refer to “GSK980TDb lathe CNC user
guide”.
1.2.5.3 T code and tool compensation
The T code of electric turret is T□□□□.( The T code of Tool post is T01□□)
The first two of 01~04/06/08 are the tool number, and the last two 01~04/06/08
are tool compensation number.
As regard to the T code and tool compensation, please refer to the “GSK980TDb
lathe CNC user guide”.
1.2.5.4 S code
Use the fixed S□□□□ spindle speed, unit: mm/min

As for G code, refer to “GSK980TDb lathe CNC user guide”

1.3 Alarming and diagnosis of machine tool


Because of fault that the machine can not work in normal conditions, the LCD
screen will displays the corresponding alarm signal, according to the alarm signal,
it is easy to find the fault reasons and eliminate it through the machine instructions.
System alarm signal details, please refer to the “GSK980TDb lathe CNC user
guide”.

1.4 Lathe electric equipment maintenance


The basic unit of CNC system (spindle motor), LCD/MDI unit, servo motor and
drive mode. The maintenance of frequency spindle motor and frequency device,
please refer to the instructions.
The machine needs the regular and daytime maintenance, please pay attention to
the followings:
 The machine tool must has a single and reliable earth system by standard.
 The score iron screw of track and plug seat should be checked regularly to
avoid loose up.
 The contact of contact device, relay, travel switch and button should be
checked regularly, If damaged, they will be changed in time.
 The absorber and arc extinguish device should be checked regularly, If

breakdown and short-circuit, they will be changed in time.
 The electric cabinet should be closed while connecting power to the machine,
in order to prevent the scrap metal, oil, water and dirty from entering the
machine. The electric cabinet should be cleaned regularly and keep dry and
clean. Look at the rotation of the axial fan, If there are some damages, change
immediately.

1.5 Operational Environment


 Environmental temperature range between 0℃ and 45℃
 Humidity should be lower than 75﹪(no moist)
 Vibration should be lower than 0.5G
 Location shoulder be lower than 1000m(altitude),and there are not corrosion
gas and dust in the machine. The liquid and organic solution in the air are very
low, and also the machine can not be laid together with the forging machine,
derrick and welder in a short distance, or they are used with the same power.

2 Appendix
2.1 Electric Equipment List
The following electric equipment list under below is taking the example of three
phase AC 380V, If the power supply is different, the below list will different as
accordingly, When do the maintenance and required to change electric parts, it
shall be confirmed with manufacturer well first.

2.2 Electric Principle Diagram


The power supply of this electric principle diagram is for three phase AC 380V, if
the power supply specification changes, the total power supple voltage shall be
same with the AC motors, transformers and other accessories, at the same time ,
the other related must also make appropriate adjustments, such as thermal relay
specifications, setting the value to be adjusted, if the main power is different, the
technical parameters of the relevant components will be different as well, please
be sure to note that when maintenance.)
