FLOW INDUCED VIBRATION ASSESSMENT

KZ01-PI-REP-68-0016

1.0 SCOPE

The purpose of this calculation is to check the integrity of piping systems for vibration due to flow
induced turbulence. The assessment is carried out downstream of the instrument devices, typically,
Control valve, Restriction Orifice and Pressure relief valve in pressure reducing systems involving process
fluids with high kinetic energy. The overall scope includes,
a. Depressurisation system (Vent lines)
b. Gas export pipeline
c. Condensate export pipeline
d. Produced water pipeline
e. Gas Gathering System AGIs
Depressurisation system for gas gathering at CPF is part of CPF scope for design and engineering, hence,
excluded from this report. The section of the depressurization system up to the battery limit with the CPF has
been assessed and there is no vibration risk.

Depressurisation system for Gas export pipeline includes piping in block valve station, pressure limiting
station and piping connected to Pig receiver. The depressurisation system on Pig launcher at CPF is part
of CPF scope, hence, excluded from this report. The section of the depressurization system up to the battery
limit with CPF has been asessed and there is no vibration risk.

Depressurisation system for Condensate export pipeline includes piping connected to pig receiver
The depressurisation system on Pig launcher at CPF is part of CPF scope, hence, excluded from this
report. The section of depressurization system up to the battery limit with the CPF has been assessed
and there is no vibration risk.

Produced water pipeline has temporary pig launcher and receiver, hence, FIV assessment is not
carried out. The system has been also designed with natural frequencies in excess of 4Hz.

A qualitative assessment in accordance with the Energy Institute guidelines has been performed
on the Gas Gathering AGIs. Three different locations have been considered: AGIs on main headers,
AGIs on Level 1 subheaders and AGIs on Level 2 subheaders.

Kicker and bypass line on the permanent pig traps have not been analyzed since they are not used under
normal operating conditions. Additionally, they have been designed with natural frequencies above 4Hz
as safeguard against flow induced vibration.

The piping and 2” branch connections downstream of the control valves at the two pressure let down stations
on the gas export system have not been analysed since the velocity in those lines is not high enough and
can be managed by modulating the control valves.

FLOW INDUCED VIBRATION ASSESSMENT

KZ01-PI-REP-68-0016

Piping vibration in pressure reducing systems can be broadly classified into low frequency and
high frequency vibration based on the nature of excitation due to fluid flow. The scope of this document
is confined to Low frequency vibration occuring due to high kinetic energy of fluid that excite the planar
mode shapes of piping system. High frequency vibration is covered as part of Acoustic induced vibration
report [Ref. 8].

FLOW INDUCED VIBRATION ASSESSMENT

KZ01-PI-REP-68-0016

3.0 BASIS & ASSUMPTIONS

The calculation is based on Energy Institute guidelines [Ref. 1]. EI guidelines follows a probablistic
approach, that further quantifies failure in terms of Likelihood of failure (LOF) calculated for the main line
based on kinetic energy. Flow induced pulsation study is conducted for gas systems with high amplitude
of shaking forces to assess the branch lines connected. This assessment is not required for liquid
systems. For condensate systems, the gas velocities are low, however, an assessment is carried out.
The Likelihood of Failure (LOF) of branch connections is also calculated.

The following basis and assumptions apply to this calculation and the results:
- The Likelihood of Failure is high for piping system with kinetic energy of the process fluid
(ρv^2) > 20,000 kg/m.s2, a quantitative assessment is carried out to calculate the Likelihood of
Failure (LOF) [Ref. 1]

- The upper bound for kinetic energy (ρv^2) of process fluid is limited to 500,000 kg/m.s2
for relief / vent systems that do not operate on a continuous basis. However, the upper bound for
piping systems that operate on continuous operation is 200,000 kg/m.s2 [Ref. 7]. Piping system for
section-5 and section-6 (PSV discharge) described below do not operate on continuous basis.

- For Gas systems, at relatively high velocities, vortices at discrete frequencies are generated for flow
past dead leg branches. The Likelihood of failure for the branch is assessed. [Ref. 2]

- Pipe supports and their spacing have been selected so that the natural frequency of the system is
in excess of 4Hz.

Fluid density and velocity were

extracted from the Hysys model in

used to calculate the maximum kinetic
Gas Gathering System energy in the system. The maximum

than 20,000 kg/m.s^2. Hence, LOF not
calculated. Additional safeguards are
provided by the use of forged tee (no
welded discontinuities) and by the fact
that the systems are design to have a
natural frequency above 4Hz.

FLOW INDUCED VIBRATION ASSESSMENT

KZ01-PI-REP-68-0016

6.0 CONCLUSION

- Flow induced vibration assessment is carried out for different pipe sections as per Energy Institute
guidelines and corrective actions recommended.

- Mechanical frequency of 4 Hz is recommended for vent lines provided for maintainence of control
valves at TP1 and TP3 of gas export pipeline. This target frequency is achieved with the current
pipe supports' configuration.

- Mechanical frequency of 4 Hz is recommended for vent lines used to prepare piping for first pass
into pipeline using "Buy back" gas from government pipeline. This target frequency is achieved with
the current pipe supports' configuration.

- Mechanical frequency of 4 Hz is recommended for piping downstream of restriction orifice (FO-3470044,

FO-3470045) at the block valve station of gas export pipeline. This target frequency is achieved with the
current pipe supports' configuration.

- Mechanical frequency of 4 Hz is recommended for piping downstream of PSV-3470019 at gas export

pig receiver. Frequency of 4 Hz is recommended for 2" piping (branch) connected to PSV discharge.
The current pipe supports' configurations achieve these target frequency.
However, as the PSV relieving case is only during fire event, it is not mandatory to achieve the required
frequency.

- It shall be noted that discharge rate through the venting system globe valves (HV valves) can be further
controlled to reduce the fluid speed downstream of the valve so that the overall kinetic energy falls below
20,000 kg/ms^2 and the FIV assessment is no longer required.

- The following lines should be included in SAP upload database for regular site inspection:
• 12"-EXPT-PJ-3470170-B01E1-NI downstream of FO-3470044
• 12"-EXPT-PJ-3470185-B01E1-NI downstream of FO-3470045
• 4"-EXPT-VO-3470066-B01E1-NI downstream of PSV-3470019
• 2"-EXPT-VO-3470052-B01E1-NI by-pass line connected to PSV discharge

- The following dead legs should be included in SAP upload database for regular site inspection:

Corrective Actions for Branch Line

Security Classification
Project Internal
For LOF > 1 on Branch Line, carry out flow induced turbulence vibration assessment as a main line and
check piping system frequency
Branch-1 : Refer Section5-Branch-1 assessment (Line - 2"-EXPT-VO-3470052-B01E1-NI)
Branch-2 : Refer Section5-Branch-2 assessment (Line - 2"-EXPT-VO-3470051-B01E1-NI)
