Information and Communications Technology (ICT): The Modern Day’s Hero

There are circumstances that we may encounter along our journey; it can be
big or small. Challenges and responsibilities don’t choose any age to experience it,
there are others were given a lot of duties at a young age. As a youth, who live in a
modern world, we cannot deny the fact that technology has a big role in our lives. In
things we have today, they both have its strengths and weaknesses. But it is within
us on how we will utilize it.
Information and Communications Technology is a product of human’s
intelligence and skills. People are being innovative in making and developing it for
the convenience of other people. ICT is mainly a tool that everyone can assess and
use it in our daily lives, it refers to all technology that is used to handle
telecommunication and access information. According to Pratt (2018) there is no
single, or universal definition of ICT, the term is generally accepted to mean all
devices, networking components, applications and systems that combined to allow
people and organizations to interact in the digital world. The use of computers, radio,
television, cellular or mobile phones, network hardware and software, internet
connections, satellite systems and applications are just a few of the examples of ICT.
As ICT is designed for the people to interact in the digital world paved way for an
easier life. It gave us the following advantages:
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) plays an essential role in
our lives, especially that I am in my Senior Highschool. It helps the students to think
and learn more. When the teachers are using ICT tools to communicate, create,
disseminate, store, and manage information. With the help of ICT, students can
communicate more easily for those who with profound and multiple learning
difficulties. There are applications like MathScore that enhances our math skills and
the newest SciLearn that practices our comprehension and English-speaking skills. It
was made for the students to develop their skills to become an intellectual person.
ICT has also become integral to the teaching-learning interaction, through such
approaches as replacing chalkboards with interactive digital whiteboards where
students watch lectures at home on the computer and use classroom time for more
interactive exercises. ICT helps me to practice and discover things that can help me
to understand our modern world’s uncertainty. Imagining life without Google is
possible but it will consume a lot of time and effort especially that you will search for
something manually by looking at the books and come to think of it, authors usually
based their contents in the ideas and researches they are reading in the internet.
Moreover, ICT benefits to enable the students to acquire the skills especially the
critical thinking and analytic skill that needed for the future higher studies or the
digital world, which then help them to easily get a job in future. the purpose of ICT is
to offer an effective learning environment for students which then increase their
performance in academic. Lastly, ICT is to enhance the existing curriculum and

In our contemporary world today, arises a lot of business nowadays, people
are emerging their selves with their interests for them to be known and make money
that will help their families financially. In every sector, ICT has its roles, but as for me
who will soon engage to the corporate world, where banking and managing maybe
the life for me, ICT plays an important role. It helps for better decision making, ICT
systems allow business to store, process, analyze and share vast amounts of data.
The information available from corporate data enables managers and employees to
make decisions quickly and accurately so that they can manage operations
effectively and respond rapidly to business opportunities or threats. Communication
networks also enable decision-makers in different locations to work together easily
when they need to take joint decisions. They can easily communicate and brainstorm
even they are far apart. In addition, in advertising, the teams can collaborate through
just videoconferencing and it saves time and money, they can discuss matter and
exchange ideas for more ways on how they can promote their products through it.
Moreover, ICT solutions can help organization reduce costs, increase revenue and
improve profitability. Production data can help staff identify quality problems,
reducing waste and reworking costs. For example, call center agents can use
information available on their customer databases to increase revenue by identifying
opportunities for selling additional products or services. Cost reductions and revenue
gains make an important contribution to overall profitability. According to Durden,
(2018) technology has caused an explosion in commerce and trade. Because of ICT,
many traditional business models and concepts were revolutionized. It gave the
opportunity to see things from a new perspective, and to approach what we were
already doing from a new perspective. It also gave us greater efficiency for
conducting business. With the growing population and demands, business needs a
security and more efficient tool to make their business boom and ICT is one of the
ways.
We cannot deny that Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is
very useful in our existence, it doesn’t just make our lives easier but a whole lot
better. But then people are using it for some illegal transactions, some use it to
destroy one’s identity or even use another identity for their greediness. ICT is open
for all but by so much accessibility, people tend to utilize it in the wrong and
irresponsible way. ICT gave us a lot of benefits and as a user of it we should know
how it works and know our limitations and responsibilities. If we use somebody else’s
work, we must cite it and give credit to them to avoid plagiarism. May we use ICT to
be our medium to advocate harmony in our society not evilness and may we be a
responsible digital citizen, where we should respect, educate and protect. ICT can be
our modern hero today but if we will use it in a wrong way, it can be our worst
enemy.
