From the conducted interview, we found out that majority of the candidates understood

about the ways to achieve gender equality in the society. They suggested some ways such as

changing the society by starting from oneself. They believed that being a thoughtful and fair people

as well as learning to respect and listen to everyone’s opinion will help to improve the appearance

of gender equality in our society. Besides, they thought that education and campaign could be a

way to achieve gender equality in our society. For instance, teaching the society especially students

about everyone should be given any opportunity based on their own abilities but not gender will

set their mindset about the equalization between women and men since they were young.

Apart from the gender equality, we also wondered about the candidates’ understanding

about gender inequality. Therefore, we had asked them about the definition of gender inequality.

Their answers could be divided into two types which is the rights and benefits between women

and men are not be treated equally as well as men are considered more powerful than women.

Based on their answers, we can know that they have a well comprehension about gender inequality.

Moreover, most of the candidates expressed the same opinion about the causes of gender

inequality. They wrote down the answers about bad mentality, low education level and culture lead

to the happen of gender inequality in our society. In some people’s mentality, they had the thoughts

and mindsets about men can do better than women in everything and women should stay at home

since they are less capable than men. Besides that, some elderlies thought that women were too

emotional for making any important decision so they could only be the housewives because of the

low education level in the past. Furthermore, there were some candidates thought that the reason

of people have bias between genders was because of their culture. In some culture, they were being

taught that women is weak and not important if comparing to men since they were kids. Therefore,

they would have the typical gender stereotype and enlarged the capability of men automatically.

Discussion

On the other hand, we had asked a question about the effect when gender inequality happen

among the class on the questionnaires paper. According to the responses, we could get the overall

conclusion about happening of gender inequality will bring negative effects among the class. For

example, the surrounding among the class would not be harmony. Some negative behaviors or

extreme acts such as bullying, fighting, discriminating, mistreating and arguments may happen

and lead to further conflicts. From the analysis, we could conscious that most candidates have a

clearly comprehension about the property of gender inequality is inappropriate in our society

Last but not least, 8 out of 10 candidates gave out some suggestions about solving the

problem of gender inequality. A few of them thought that education could help in this problem.

Parents should encourage their children to be open-minded instead of limiting their mindset in

which gender are more stronger than others. Then, the teachers or elderlies should educate the

younger generation about being fair to each genders as well as spread the knowledge and

importance of gender equality to them. Other candidates believed that the most effective way to

solve this problem is being brave to voice out and speak out their opinions or any inequalities when

they are facing discrimination of gender. The remaining candidates indicated that action is the

foundation key to success in stopping the happen of gender inequality. They thought that people

should treat both genders as equal by themselves in order to not getting treated inequality by others.

From our observation, most candidates can easily state out the meaning, reasons, effects

and ways of our topic, which is the feminism, gender equality and gender inequality between men

and women. Therefore, we can conclude that most candidates have a complete understanding about

this issue. However, some of them have not enough awareness about this issue because not all of

them can list down the effects and ways of solving the problems. Lastly, it is advisable to carry out

more campaigns or activities in order to promote awareness about this topic among the society.
