A. Pollution refers to the presence or introduction of harmful or toxic substances into the environment. In this
case environment refers to all natural living and non living things those surround us. Forests, water bodies,
air, oceans all constitute our natural environment and, any foreign substance that compromises their purity
and longevity is termed as “Pollution”.
As per the recent 2018 EPI (Environmental Performance Index) statistics, India ranks 177 out of 180 countries
in terms of air quality and overall environmental health; that’s a steep fall from 141st rank in 2016.
India is followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo on 178thrank, Bangladesh on 179th and Burundi on 180th.
Top five nations with the best EPI index are Switzerland, France, Denmark, Malta and Sweden respectively.
B. Love is a quality that defines human beings. Love is a quality of the human heart. It is a feeling that the human
species can express. It is love that brings and keeps people together in harmony and happiness. Parents love
their children. In a family the members love each other. We love our relatives and friends. We love our country.
We love God, and show this love by loving all creatures created by the supreme God. Love encompasses affection,
respect, gratitude, and joy. Love can be expressed in many different ways such as through one’s deeds, words
and thoughts.
C. Good manners are expressed by us through our behaviour and conduct. It is through our words and deeds that
we show good manners. Being polite and courteous is good manners. Being rude and arrogant is a sign of having
bad manners. A cultured person has good manners. A good mannered person is always appreciated and
respected by people. People like to have friendship with those who are good mannered. A person who does not
have good manners loses dignity and self-respect. Good manners should be inculcated in childhood so that they
take firm root, and can see one through life.
