ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to thirty (30) grade 9 students of Bloomingfields Academy Foundation Inc, which
main goal to determine the effects of social media to the physical, emotional aspects. The researchers
conducted a survey sheets as their instrument to identify the effects of social media to the grade 9 students
of Bloomingfields Academy Foundation Inc., The researchers used percentage and frequency to answer
the research problems of this study. (working on process..)

1. INTRODUCTION

Social media refers to the ways in which
people interact in virtual communities an
d networks to create, share or exchange i
nformation and ideas. People use social
media as their communication tool like
Facebook, Messenger,
Whatsapp, Skype. Instagram among
others to get easy in contact with people.
Many individuals describe that social
media works only in smartphones or
tablet but the truth is people can use this
communication tool with computers.
Clearly, social media is intended to be
used as an instrument for connecting with
others around the world, not only
transcending geographical limits, but also
Twitter, reaching out to strangers who share
comparable interests. They also serve as a
platform for transmitting your own
emotions and experiences online at the
same moment (Parikh, 2017).

In today society, social media is
becoming an essential component of the
life of the people. Majority of the students
spend a lot of time in social media and as
a matter a fact internet occupied the life
of the people. Facebook has the highest
number active users 2, 234 billion.
According to Quintly (2017), over
120,000 million users of Facebook are
usually ranges to 13-17 year old. The
problem of the use of internet use among
high school learners has
significantly owing to the reality that the
lives of the people are strongly occupied
by the internet. (Durak and Saritefeci,
2019) The platform has set the standard
for what a social network can be, which
focuses on interactions between friends
and family, sharing pictures, news,
articles and status updates where most of
the students addicted in this application,
sometimes they sacrifice their health just
to use it. (Warner, 2019).
There are things that social media can
affect the student’s physical aspect
negatively, spending too much time on
social media may affect their physical
aspect such as; eye problem when you
stare at the screen for too much time, they
may also get Carpal Tunnel syndrome
when the student always
something which can strain the tendons of
his/her fingers. Nowadays, students lack

exercises because they often use social
media instead of having exercise outdoors
they spend their time communicating,
scrolling and watching using their
gadgets. Sometimes distraction is the
most dangerous consequences of social
media for example, while walking on the
road the student receives a message and
open it, there is a big chance that he/she
will get an accident because he/she got
distracted. (DiRenzo,2016).

In this generation, using social media can
make the people feel exuberance through
the news updates from online (Coviello et
al., 2014, Kramer et al.,2014). However,
other individuals may feel envious and
jealousy on the things that they will see
on the internet which can lead them to
depression (Steers et al., 2014, Tandoc et
al., 2014).
Through these social networks, people
may get positive effects to their social
aspect such as progressing and prolong
social capital and social connectedness
(Maier, Laumer, Eckhardt, & Weitzel,
2012). Nonetheless, this may have
negative outcome such as having an over
optimistic that may lead disappointment
to other individuals that decreasing the
life satisfaction of the student (Kross et

who is voiceless. In addition, social
media can help to improve the skills of the
students into real to life situations

the students to be more confident and

1.1 OBJECTIVES

The main goal of this study is to know the effects of social media to the students when
it comes to their physical, emotional and social aspect of the students. Also this study
aims to know on which among the three aspect is the most affected in using social
media and determine if is it positive or negative And lastly this study want to know
on how social media change one’s lifestyle. (TWO COLLUMS)

2. MATERIAL AND METHOD

2.1 Participants

The participants of this study consist of 5 boys and 5 girls in each section of grade 9
students of Bloomingfields Academy Foundation Inc. Overall this study will use 20
participants.

2.2 Variables

The effects of social media vary according to how much time they consume for it.
Therefore, the usage of social media has different effects on the aspects of every
individual such as physical, emotional, and social. The researchers made use of
survey sheets to determine the effects of social media to the grade 9 students of
Bloomingfiels Academy Foundation, Inc. Each participants will be given a
questionnaire consisting fifteen (15) items. The participants will answer each item by
choosing “Yes” for column number one and “No” for column number two, the items

for yes or no questionnaire focuses on the effects of social media to the grade 9
students.
