Introduction

Mathematics includes the study of: Numbers: how things can be counted. This

subfield is usually called geometry. Change: how things become different. For more

than two thousand years, mathematics has been a part of the human search for

understanding. Mathematical discoveries have come both from the attempt to describe

the natural world and from the desire to arrive at a form of inescapable truth from careful

reasoning. These remain fruitful and important motivations for mathematical thinking,

but in the last century mathematics has been successfully applied to many other

aspects of the human world: voting trends in politics, the dating of ancient artifacts, the

analysis of automobile traffic patterns, and long-term strategies for the sustainable

harvest of deciduous forests, to mention a few. Today, mathematics as a mode of

thought and expression is more valuable than ever before. Learning to think in

mathematical terms is an essential part of becoming a liberally educated person.

Interest plays a dominant role in making a student learn something. There may be

various factors affecting the interest of students in the subject mathematics.

Mathematics is a science of magnitude and number that is very useful virtually in all

subject areas. This is because all fields of studies are dependent on it for problem

solving and prediction of outcomes.

Our research is all about the level of interest of the ABM students in Goldenstate

college and if it’s true that they choose ABM which is math related because they are

interested on math.

We all know that math is not that easy and not easy to understand. There’s only

few students who can understand math and for them solving math problems is time
consuming and you really need to have some focus. We can’t deny the fact that there is

a lot of student that is not interested in math.

Statement of the problem

This study sought to provide answer to the following question:

1. Socio demographic profile

2 What are the effects of having interest in math in choosing ABM strand?

3. How do the respondents react to the effects of having interest in math in choosing

ABM strand?

4. What are the plans of the students so they get better on math.
Significance of the study

To the researchers:

The importance of this study to the researchers is for them to find out the level of

interest of ABM student in math.

To the respondents:

The importance of this study to the respondents is to find out their ability to solve

math problems if they are good or they are interested but not so great in solving.

To the teachers:

The importance of this study to the teachers is to know the ability of their

students and if their students are interested in math

To the school:

The importance of this study for private schools is to find out if their ABM

students are interested in math and to know if their students can solve math problems

and a short period so that they can send it to math tournaments if possible.

Scope and delimitation of the study

The focus of this research is to primarily study the level of interest and the math

proficiency of ABM students in Goldenstate College General Santos City. This study will

delimitating to the ABM students of GoldenState College S.Y 2019-2020.

Definition of terms

Level of interest– refers to the interest of ABM students in math.

Math proficiency- is the key in developing a strong mathematical community.

ABM -. Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Strand. The Accountancy,

Business and Management (ABM) strand would focus on the basic concepts of financial

management, business management, corporate operations, and all things that are

accounted for.
