History
❑Restaurant began in Paris , France in 1765
❑Restaurant came form the French word “restauer” means
to restore.
❑ Delmonicos – 1st restaurant in the US, established in
New York City in 1827, prepared 371 dishes
❑ Frederick Henry Harvey (Fred Harvey) – An
innovative restaurateur and marketerthe, the 1st big
chain restaurant operator , in 1912, his company
operated 12 large hotels, 65 railway restaurant and 60
dining cars.

❑John R. Thompson - early chain operator, in
1926, he controlled 126 self-service restaurants in
the Midwest and the South.
