THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION

Korean drama is the most popular drama in this 21st century or the millennial

itself. It is also the most talked about dramas in this year.

Korean dramas have an interesting story and fun to watch. Korean drama also

preferred for teenagers and youths. The teenagers love Korean Drama because they can

watch their favorite actors or actresses.

This past few years Kdramas is continuously known not only in their country but

in the whole world. USA, Singapore, Malaysia, Europe, China, Japan and Philippines.

Korean drama or K-Drama refers to television drama in the Korean language.

The Korean drama is made in South Korea, and mostly in a miniseries format with

distinctive features that set it apart from regular Western television series or soap operas.

Korean drama can set in contemporary times or in historical settings, and we can say it

with sageuk. Different genres apply to these two types, from romantic comedies and

action series to fusion science fiction dramas.

According to www.koreaboo.com The Producers is the most searched Korean

drama in Google Korea in 2015 featured main leads IU, Kim Soo Hyun, Gong Hyo Jin,

and Cha Tae Hyun.

It focuses on the staff working in the variety department at KBS, revealing the life

behind variety shows and their day-to-day dealings.


In 2016, GOBLIN is the most searched Korean drama in 2016 featured the main lead

Gong yoo and Kim Go Eun this story focuses on a a goblin who needs a mortal bride to

end his immortal life, an amnesiac grim reaper who stays together with the goblin to

oversees the passing souls, and a human woman who suddenly appears claimed to be the

goblin's bride, who actually destined to be killed.

Nowadays kdrama has a lot of TV adaptation in different country like My love

from the star starring Kim Soo Hyun and Jun ji hyun in the Philippine adaptation of this

kdrama Jennelyn Mercado and model Gil Cuerva also on the list is My name is Kim

Samsoon with the main cast Hyun Bin and Kim Sun A. In the Philippine version Regine

Velasquez and Mark Anthony Fernandez leads in this drama adaptation.

Being the most popular drama in the world theres a lot of negative and positive

effects of being hook in kdramas it doesn’t matter what kind of people are you as long as

you surround by people who loves to watch Korean drama.

The moment you step into the doors of Korean drama, you will find your self-

addict in every episodes. And soon you didn’t notice your having an eyes of a monster

because of your puffy eyes. It’s really hard to resist the charm of Korean actors and

actresses and the story line that blows our mind every time we watch Korean drama.

Being addict in Korean dramas sometimes you can’t stop yourself from watching

another episode and you didn’t do what you did to do. We can’t resist it because of the

plots is very unpredictable and we can’t wait to watch all the episodes.

The reason why many people got addict to Korean dramas is because it has an

interesting story and fun to watch. Many millennial also can relate to some Korean
dramas. The millennial love Korean drama because they can watch their favorite actors

and actresses.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of Korean drama on the

academic performance of Grade 11 HUMSS students during the school year 2017-2018.

Specifically, this study will seek answers to the following questions:

1. What is the profile of students in terms of:

1.1. Age

1.2. Gender

2. What genre of Korean drama do you prefer to watch?

3. How much time do students spend on watching Korean drama?

4. Is there a significance in watching Korean drama?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY


This study is all about the effects of Korean Drama in student’s in Grade 11

HUMSS on their academic performance whether if it is positive or negative effects on the

beneficiaries of the study.

STUDENTS. The outcome of the study in the Korean Drama in student in

HUMSS. Also students will know their limitation in watching k-drama.

TEACHER. The result of the study can benefit the teacher. It can help the

teachers because they don’t need to think about their students who’s watching k-drama

during class.

FUTURE RESEACHER. The future researchers will benefit from this study

because it can help them to understand more about this research. They can also gain more

knowledge about this.

Scope and Delimitation

This study will determine the effects of Korean drama to the academic

performance of the grade 11 HUMSS student at Bataan national high school during the

school year 2017-2018 from the total of ____. The main purpose of this study if for us to

know the effect of Korean dramas on Grade 11 HUMSS students because nowadays,

Korean dramas is a big hit on the Philippines, especially on students like us.
