I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content The learner demonstrate understanding of organisms interacting
Standard with each other and with their environment to survive.
B. Performance The learner should be able to conduct collaborative action to
Standard preserve the ecosystem in the locality.

C. Learning Describe the different ecological relationships found in an

Competencies/ ecosystem.
Objectives The purpose of lesson is to study how organisms interact with
other organisms in a given environment.

IV. Procedures
A. Reviewing previous  Are you aware that there are different relationships
lesson Or presenting happening in our environment? What examples of these
the new lesson relationships have you observed in your own community,
especially in the Uma?

B. Establishing a  It is important to study the different relationship

purpose for the happening among organisms because they are not always
lesson beneficial, some are also harmful.
C. Presenting  An example of relationship that we can observe during
Examples/ Instances this season in the Uma is the relationship between a
for the new lesson Daffug and Alinta. The relationship is called Parasitism.
This relationship involves a parasite (the Alinta) and a
host (the Daffug) where the parasite gets its nutrients
from a living host wherein the host is harmed by the
interaction.
D. Discussing new Unlocking of difficulties:
concepts and  Environment – is a collection of living and nonliving
practicing new skills # things.
1  Organisms – the living components of the environment.
 Physical Environment – the nonliving components.
 Ecosystem – The complex of a community of organisms
and its environment functioning as an ecological unit.
 Population – a group of organisms of the same kind living
in the same place at the same time.
 Community - formed by population that interact in a
given environment.
E. Discussing new  Aside from Parasitism, there are other Ecological
concepts and Relationships.
practicing new skills 1. PARASITISM - is a type of symbiotic relationship, or
#2 long-term relationship between two species, where
one member, the parasite, gains benefits that come at
the expense of the host member.
2. COMMENSALISM - is the interaction between two
organisms when one organism benefits the other
without being harmed or benefitted itself. This
relationship is not necessary for the survival of the
two organisms as they can both live without it. It is
also a very rare interaction in the environment as
usually two organisms in an ecosystem will affect each
other in one way or another but, only one organism is
affected by the other in this relationship.
3. MUTUALISM - or interspecific cooperation is the way
two organisms of different species exist in a
relationship in which each individual benefits from the
activity of the other.
4. COMPETITION - Competition exists when multiple
organisms vie for the same, limiting resource. Because
the use of a limited resource by one species decreases
availability to the other, competition lowers the fitness
of both. Competition can be interspecific, between
different species, or intraspecific, between individuals
of the same species.
5. PREDATION - Predation includes any interaction
between two species in which one species benefits by
obtaining resources from and to the detriment of the
other. While it's most often associated with the classic
predator-prey interaction, in which one species kills
and consumes another, not all predation interactions
result in the death of one organism.
F. Developing Different pictures will be flashed using a projector. Students will
mastery (Leads to be asked to determine the type of relationship these pictures
Formative show. They will also try to explain why they think the picture is
Assessment) showing that certain relationship.
G. Finding practical Students will go out of their classroom and observe around the
applications of surroundings. They will be asked to list down different ecological
concepts and skills in relationships that they have seen.
daily living
H. Making How do different organisms interact? Are all interactions
generalizations and beneficial? Harmful?
abstractions about
the lesson
I. Evaluating learning Students will match a given picture to the kind of relationship it is
showing and they will answer a crossword puzzle.
J. Additional activities Aside from the different examples of ecological relationships that
for application we can find in our own community, can you think of other
examples which you have seen/observed in other places?
