REPORTS TO Enrichment Officer

Role Summary

The Enrichment Coordinator will provide enrichment activities for all levels of learners across the college.
They will be a key contact for both staff and students, enhancing the student experience. The post holder
will maintain a highly visible presence across both the curriculum areas and the campus, encouraging,
supporting and leading by example to inspire a sense of responsibility and community in our learners and
enhance their overall college experience in support of the college's core values.

Ideally, the post holder will hold a degree or level 3 qualification in youth work, sports or a related
discipline. In addition experience of working with young people is essential.

This is post is 33 hours per week – term time.

Principal Accountabilities

- To work with the Learner Journey Team, students and staff to develop, co-ordinate and supervise a
programme of enrichment/ enhancement/ work placement activities.

- To promote and encourage students to develop employability and leadership skills and collectively
support student engagement and retention.

- To support the learner journey team in ensuring all the students of Buxton and Leek College have a
smooth, valuable and positive life-changing experience from their initial contact with the college through
their transition into employment or to higher education.

- In line with guidance from the Enrichment Officer, plan, run and monitor an annual programme of clubs,
trips and activities for students to take part in, both independently and in liaison with curriculum staff.

- To work with programme coordinators to ensure all 16-18 year old students have been scheduled

across a range of activity to enable them to meet the requirements of a study programme.

- To proactively encourage students to develop themselves by being a positive and visible influence
around the college campus.

- To work alongside the students union and curriculum staff to facilitate the participation of students in
organised leagues and completion, both internally and externally.

- To work with curriculum staff to organise, and sometimes lead, a calendar of one-off charity and
promotional activities.

- To work as part of the Learner Journey Team collaboratively with other internal and external partners to
develop a coherent approach to employability and leadership development and learner voice.

- To work to expand external opportunities available to students both with local providers and with
enrichment schemes through positive links with the local community and service providers to young
people.

- To build relationships with students and advocate their views, opinions and needs.

- Working with the wider Learner Journey Team, develop a broad understanding of the student dynamics
within the campus and to work actively with individuals and groups of students to develop a supportive
and friendly environment.

- To map and compile information for students, of the range of enrichment activities available.

- Work with the enrichment officer to monitor and regularly review take-up of enrichment activities.
Produce relevant reports which can then be interpreted by the wider Learner Journey Team, which will
result in an annual improvement plan.

- To Keep abreast of local and national developments in the operation and funding of the enrichment
curriculum.

- As guided by the Operations Manager for the Learner Journey Team, oversee and monitor the college’s
enrichment budget for student activities.

- To ensure that all trips and enrichment activities go ahead in accordance with the college policies and
agreed safety codes including completing all the necessary visit forms and risk assessments in relation to
the agreed enrichment delivery.

- In conjunction with the Learner Journey Team, be alert to general on-course support issues and to work
at all times with the best interests of students at heart.

- To assist with general student support activity and additional events such as open evenings and
enrolments as required.

- To record, monitor and evaluate personal work practice.

Instructor Responsibilities

- To support the delivery of specific practical, technical vocational learning activities including planning,

support for learning and assessment (including the necessary preparation) using a variety of methods on
appropriate programmes as directed by Operations Manager – Learner Journey.

- Prepare suitable instruction materials for a range of activities to develop the students’ practical/
vocational skills linked to the enrichment programme.

- Demonstrate tasks and process to individuals and groups.

- Facilitate resource based learning where appropriate to support practical instruction.

- Supervise groups of students undertaking project work, practical work or on placement.

- Provide learning support to students as appropriate and ensure that learning support records are kept
up to date.

- Carry out the full range of observational and diverse evidence assessments as required and provide
timely and comprehensive feedback regarding student competence/ progress.

- Ensure that any assessment carried out is completed to the standards laid down by the awarding body
and the College Quality Assurance systems.

- To monitor attendance and inform the Operations Manager, Learner Journey of unexplained absences
and student concerns.

- To ensure that students behave in a reasonable manner to a high standard of safety In classrooms,
practical areas and around the college.

- Take responsibility for the upkeep of the practical working area, materials and equipment.

Person Specification

1. Essential Criteria

Qualifications

 Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience (A level or equivalent).

Experience

 Previous work with young people

Skills, knowledge and abilities

 Able to interact positively with young people and adults.

 Ability to use IT to a high level of competence

 Ability to communicate, negotiate and work effectively with internal and external partners.

 Ability to think creatively and be innovative in introducing new concepts, themes and fundraising

Business requirements

 A good team worker and leader with ability to enthuse and motivate to encourage participation in

2. Desirable Criteria
Qualifications

 Degree in youth work or related discipline

 Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy or equivalent

 Sports Coaching, outdoor instruction and any other relevant vocational coaching or instructing
qualification.

Experience

 Experience and understanding of the FE/ education sector


 Experience of working with mixed ages, cultures and abilities
 Experience of overseeing/ monitoring a budget and building costings for events.
