respect towards others, honesty and good sportsmanship during the Spelling Bee competition.
There are two (2) phases of the Spelling Bee Competition: Elimination Round and Final Round.
I. Elimination Round
1. Participants will be provided with pentel pens and writing sheets during this phase. The
monitor will collect the writing sheets after the Arbitrator checks the spelling of every
contestant.
3. There will be 10 words to be given for each sub rounds by the Bee Master.
4. The Bee Master will pronounce each word twice and give an aid to word identification.
Countdown will start after the word has been pronounced the second time by the Bee Master
6. Should a participant wish to change the spelling that he/she has written down, the first
one should be crossed out with one horizontal line and the new and final spelling, be written
clearly above the crossed-out word. A participant is allowed to change his/her answer within
the time allotted for a particular word.
7. Those who spelled seven (7) to ten (10) words correctly will continue in the Bee, while
those who correctly spelled only six (6) words and below will be eliminated from the round.
The Bee Master will pronounce the word, identify the part of speech and use it in a sentence or
use it in a sentence.
The contestant, in 30 second-time, will then pronounce the word, spell the word, and
pronounce the word again.
The Head Judge will have the responsibility for stopping the student if he/she fails to pronounce
the word.
If the student still begins to spell without pronouncing the word, he/she will be disqualified
from the contest.
The participant shall have 20 seconds from the time he/she pronounces the word until he/she
must begin spelling the word.
Once the participant begins spelling the word, he/she will have 20 seconds remaining time to
complete the spelling of the word.
Having started to spell a word, a student may stop and start over, retracing the spelling from the
beginning. However, in the retracing, there can be no change of letters and their sequence from
those first pronounced. If any letter and/or their sequence are changed in the respelling, the
speller will be disqualified.
When a participant misspells a word, he/she immediately drops out of the contest. The pattern
will continue until one of the contestants is declared the champion.
Caution

audience.
If a participant receives assistance from anyone in the audience, he/she will be disqualified.
The audience is also requested to remain seated until a break is offered in order to avoid
confusion for the participant.
Anagram
1. The contest is open to all Als Learners. Each barangay will have one(1) representative.
2. The players shuffle the letters in the "pool" thoroughly. Each player, in turn, draws a letter tile
from the pool and places it face up on the table. These letters are available to all players on their
turn.
3. Before starting play it should be decided that either 3-letter, 4-letter or 5-letter words are to be
established as the basis of play.
4. Then the first player draws a letter from the pool. Keeping it hidden, he tries to form one word of
2 or more letters with the letter in his hand and with at least one or more of those letters face up
on the table. He may also form the word with only the face up letters and not use the letter in
his hand. Whenever a player forms a word, his turn ends.
5. If a player cannot form a word, or if he forms one but doesn't use the letter he has drawn from
the pool, he must discard this letter at the end of his turn. The letter is discarded by putting it
face up with the other turned up letters on the table. Then the next player moves.
6. When a player forms a word, he places it in front of him facing it to the center of the table. This
is done so the other players can easily see it. It gives them the chance to steal words. As the
game continues and players gather words, they may steal the words from one another. This is
done by taking all the letters of another player's word and adding one or more letters to it to
completely change that word's meaning. The letters added to a word in "stealing" may be the
one drawn by the player from the pool or one or more of those face up.
7. Adding S to make a word plural (or ED or ING) does not change the meaning of a word and
cannot be used to "steal" a word. Any letters at all, however, can be used in "stealing" a word if
the new word formed is entirely changed in meaning.
8. Players should make their own words harder to steal by adding letters to them and making them
more complex. This counts as a complete turn and is as important as forming new words.
9. When all of the tiles have been drawn from the pool, players, continue in turn to try to form
words using the face up letters. The game ends when there are no more face up letters, or when
no player is able to move using the remaining face up letters. Each player counts the number of
tiles in all of the words he has formed in front of him.
10. The winner is the person who has first obtained eight (8) words. The game is not over until ALL
players have had an EQUAL number of turns.
11. If at the end of an equal number of turns there is more than one player with eight (8) words,
count the number of tiles in those 8 words. The player with the most tiles wins. If the number of
tiles in the 8 words is equal, then the game ends in a tie.
