President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday (10/9) attended the official welcoming
ceremony at Changdeok Palace, Seoul.

On the occasion, President Jokowi and the First Lady were greeted by Korean and
Indonesian children and Korean art performances. President Jokowi and South
Korean President Moon Jae-in then held a friendship talk at the Secret Garden of
Changdeok Palace, during which tea and traditional Korean food were served.
President Moon Jae-in and President Jokowi also held a joint press conference at the
Blue House Presidential Palace, Seoul. In the joint press conference, President Moon
conveyed several things, among others:

On that occasion, President Moon Jae-in praised President Jokowi on the success of
the 2018 Asian Games and for the 45 years diplomatic relations between Indonesia
and South Korea. “We agree to expand the cooperation between the two countries in
the future,” President Moon said.

First, the two countries will continue to organize high-level exchanges, including
high-level summits, and will strengthen cooperation on defense, maritime affairs, and
banking sectors so that the people of the two countries can benefit from the
cooperation.

Second, President Moon said that Indonesia and South Korea will strengthen the
cooperation on welfare and trade sector in order to boost economic growth in the
future.

“South Korea will help to build infrastructures in Indonesia with LRT development
projects, railroads and railway stations, and will continue to work together on
environmentally friendly energy development, including the construction of
hydroelectric power plants in Cilegon (Banten Province),” President Moon added.

The two countries, according to President Moon, have also agreed to also strengthen
cooperation on digital start-ups and ICT technology, including 5G, in order to face
the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Third, the two countries will continue young exchange programs, including Young
Leaders’ Dialog.

Indonesia and South Korea, President Moon continued, also have a Memorandum of
Understanding on Human Resources and Good Governance.

“Fourth, the two countries will work together for peace and stability in the Korean
Peninsula and East Asia,” President Moon further said, while praising President
Jokowi for his commitment to bring peace to the Peninsula.

The two countries have also established strategic cooperation on security sector,
including on the production of fighter aircraft and submarines, marine waste
management, maritime energy development, joint response to international maritime
crime, and maritime environment.

“Once again, I thank President Joko Widodo and the Indonesian delegation for the
state visit,” President Moon concluded
