CareerTech sponsors career awareness workshops for counselors

Two Career Conversations workshops will be next
week at Francis Tuttle Business Innovation Center
in Edmond. Oklahoma CareerTech and the American
School Counselor Association joined forces to offer
the training for school counselors Dec. 10 and Dec.
11.
Louisiana State University professor Jennifer Curry
will lead the sessions on howto have conversations
with students, teachers and parents about careers and
the world of work. Curry will also identify ways
counselors can work with teachers to integrate career
education learning into the curricula.

workshops.

Counselors at all levels can play an important role in

helping students identify their interests and abilities, Curry
introducing them to various careers and the world of
work. Career awareness activities help students
realize their potential, achieve their dreams and
become productive citizens, according to the ASCA.

Career education begins as early as kindergarten,

teaching basic concepts such as “What is work?”
