I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
A. 1 Describe the characteristics of sound terms of wavelength and frequency.
2. Relate vibration, frequency, and pitch to one another.
B. Manipulate a sounding box to demonstrate the characteristics of sound.
C. Value the importance of sound for safety and recreation.

The class will have a short game entitled “Guess that Tune”. Audio clips will be
played, and the students will try to guess the title of the song.

Guide Question:

1. What is the dominant instrument played in the audio clips?


D. Lesson Proper
1. Pre – Activity
 With the use of the sounding box, the students will explore the
characteristics of sound.
 The class will be divided into two groups and will perform the following
steps;
1. Label the rubber bands of your sounding box as S1, S2, and so on.
Labelling should start on the thinnest rubber band.

2. Pluck each rubber band. Listen to the sound produced.


3. Record your observations and answer the following guide questions:

a. Are the sound produced by each string the same?


b. What string produced high sound?
c. What string produced low sound?
d. When you strummed the strings, which string vibrates fastest?
e. Which string vibrates the slowest when strummed?
f. Which string has the highest frequency?
g. Which string has the highest pitch?
h. Which string has the lowest frequency?
i. Which string has the lowest pitch?
j. How would you relate pitch and frequency?

2. Activity Proper
1. The teacher will facilitate the activity. Group discussion will take
place after 20 minutes.

E. Generalization
The students will enumerate and define the properties of sound described using
the sounding box.

F. Application
The students will give some implications of sound for safety and recreation.
