Introduction
 Solar Energy
 Solar panel cells
 Electric energy

This is the most simple and affordable solar battery charger that the
hobbyist can make. It has a few drawbacks over other similar controls, but offers numerous
advantages. It is intended for charging lead-acid batteries, but may also be used for charging
any battery at a constant voltage. Voltage output is adjustable.

Challenges:

 The solar chargers which were invented earlier are large in size and weight .it is very
difficult to carry anywhere because of “rugged” additional features.
 They don`t have the facility to store the charge . hence we have to place our costly
devices in hot sun.
 By connecting the device directly to a solar panel or in brown out conditions, variable
voltage is supplied.
 When the device receives more current, it will in overheating and self-destruction.

Challenges (CONT..)

 Many charger are “ universal “ but they discharge at the lowest rate for other standard
devices.
 Some solar charges are only suitable to either CTIA STANDARD or APPLE standard.
 They need some special USB cables.
 The batteries are usually NimH or NiCd battery which is poor on storage and have a high
self discharge rate.
 Lithium ion cells have no special charge control safety and will exceed safe operating
temperature and shut down by the extreme heat.
 The thin film cells used by solar chargers are less expensive but have lower energy
conversion efficiency.
 It absorbs the visible part of the solar spectrum not IR part.
 It can work in low-light conditions but never work well in full sun conditions.

Advantage and Disadvantages :

 + Simple, small & inexpensive

 + Uses commonly available components
 + Adjustable voltage
 + ZERO battery discharge when sun is not shining
 — High drop-out voltage—may be marginal for 6V application
 — Current limited to 1.5A
 — No LED indicators—no bells or whistles

Specification :

 Max Wattage : 5 Watts

 Discharge Rate : Fixed 5V, 1000mAh
 Charge Rate : 5-5.5V 450mAh
 Charge Time via USB port/wall charger : 5 hours 30 min
 Charge Time via Sun : 8-10 hours

Color : Pearl White

Battery : 3.7V/2000 mAh Li-Poly- User replaceable at end of life (average 3 years)

Weight / Dims : 3.5 *3.5 *1 in. – 5.3 oz

Cost : $70.0
Schematic :

6V Application :

 Output Voltage: Set for 7V

 Input voltage:
o Battery discharged (6V): 8.75V Min @ 1.5A (this is a little high for panels that are
characterized for 6V applications)
o Battery charged (7V): 9V Min @ 10mA (e.g.).

Features:

 Size is miniature and fits into your palm.

 Special output mode is built to charge all I-devices.
 There are no extra cables or connectors or adaptors required.
 It has two charging modes for CTIA standard and APPLE standard . A single LED button
to toggle between these modes.
 Extra charge control protections for extreme heat conditions or brown-outs and
maintain the safe operating temperature.
Battery features:

 Battery is high temperature rated. So is can tolerate high weather conditions.

 Excellent shelf life when stored at 40-84F.
 Battery can be replaced easily.

Battery features (CONT..)

 The battery is of type LI-poly battery and it has uniform discharge rate to protect the
device from damage.
 It charges I phone in just 60-90 minutes.
 Solio has solar smart battery to deliver uniform power supply.
 Battery has very low self-discharge rate and can store charge for 1 year of time.
 Can retain up to 80% of its original capacity after 500 full charge and discharge cycles.
Hence it has more life span.

Components

 Solar panel
 Voltage regulator
 Resistors of variable resistance
 Diode
 Schottky diode
 Battery (5v – 14V)
 LED lights

CONCLUSION

 Solar energy is the most eco-friendly form of energy which can be utilized in order to
perform our everyday activities.
 People all over the world have come conscious regarding the safety of the environment.
 The future driven by solar panels and batteries will turn the electronics and electrical
markets upside down.
