1 - Introduction This specification is intended to define the manufacturing and use for the
Set of Optical Splicing Box (CEFO G2).
For this purpose, items describing information about the purpose and
operation of the product, main sizes of the components and settings.
2 - Description The set of optical splicing box CEFO G2 has been developed to house
and protect splices of optical fiber cables in aerial and ground networks.
CEFO G2 is a compact easy-to-use product that has high resistance
against deterioration and weather.
1. Dome: Responsible for protection of the splice set. The plastic raw-
material used is polypropylene. It has characteristics that provides the
product with high resistance against deterioration when exposed to long
periods in the environment; including the action of ultraviolet (UV).
3. Cover and Tray: Responsible for housing splices. The plastic raw-
material used in both is the high impact polystyrene gives these
resistance against deterioration.
4. Metal parts: The metal parts of the splices, screws, washers, fasteners
are composed of stainless steel and aluminum.
3 – Settings CEFO G2 has different settings that vary according to the number of fibers
per tray, amounts of trays, tray type, dome size and fastening (aerial or
underground).

5 – Characteristics
5.2 – Mechanical
Characteristics
Requirements:
5.2.1 – Air-tightness: When subject to the test for second characteristic numeral 7, according to
ABNT NBR IEC 60529, optical terminal box must not show the entry of
water.
Procedure:
- Immerse the test specimen in a tank with water with enough height to cover
it with at least 0.15 m of water, leaving the ends of the cables outwards of the
water.
- The water to be used must be dyed with fluorescein sodium, and the
concentration of the mixture is in the range of 0.01% to 0.1%.
- After 30 minutes, the sealed air optical terminal box must be removed and
thoroughly dried.
- Being externally dry, the aerial optical terminal box must be opened and
examined internally with ultraviolet light source, and checked for possible
contamination fluorescent, which will reveal the water penetration.
Procedure:
When it is run 2 cycles of bending in each cable, with angle ranging from -30°
to +30° related to its normal position, in each of the two mutually
perpendicular axes.
Procedure:
- Loads for application in cables: As table 1 of IEC 61300-2-5.
- Twist distance: 400 mm of the cable entry in the terminal box.
- Cycle Duration: 10 min, with a permanence time of 5 min at -90° and +90°.
Procedure:
- Loads to be applied to the cables:
Main cable: 440 N.
Drop cables: 100 N.
- Load application time: 2 hours in each cable.
Procedure:
- Frequency: 10 Hz to 55 Hz.
- Cycle Duration: 10 Hz to 55 Hz returning to 10 Hz in approximately 1
minute.
- Amplitude: 0.76 mm (1.52 mm peak-to-peak).
Number of Cycles: 360.
- Time: 2 hours in each of the mutually perpendicular plans.
- During the test, the attenuation must be measured with maximum intervals
of 20 s.
Procedure:
Submit the box to an impact of a steel ball of 1 kg at a height of 1 m.
Procedure:
When applied a load of 1,000 N to an area not less than 25 cm2 of the main
face during 10 minutes.
Procedure:
- The underground optical terminal box must undergo a hydrostatic pressure
of 0.6 m of the water column for 7 hours.
- The water to be used must be dyed with fluorescein sodium, and the
concentration of the mixture is in the range of 0.01% to 0.1%.
After 7 days, the underground terminal box has to be removed and carefully
wiped.
- Being dry, the underground optical terminal box must be opened and
examined internally with ultraviolet light source, and be checked for possible
contamination fluorescent, which will reveal the water penetration.
Procedure:
- Mount the optical fibers inside the case, using its maximum capacity, with
the procedures defined by the manufacturer in the product documentation.
5.3 – Mechanical
Characteristics
Procedure:
The optical terminal box must be subject to 360 hours of exposure to saline
mist.
Procedure:
When undergoing artificial rain test with a precipitation rate of 1.0 mm/min to
2.0 mm/min for each component (vertical and horizontal). It is allowed to
measure the vertical component of the rain, provided that it is ensured at a
precipitation angle of approximately 45 degrees. Keep the artificial rain on
the aerial optical terminal box for 15 minutes. Evidence of water penetration
inside the aerial terminal box must be a failure.
Note: For checking the water penetration inside the terminal box, some
techniques may be used such as:
- Placement of special paper, at strategic points, for the water detection (eg.
WATESMO paper), or spread talcum powder inside the terminal box.
Procedure:
When subject to 28 temperature cycles of 6 hours each, with a re-entry every
7 cycles (where applicable).
- Conditioning:
High Temperature = +75°C;
Low temperature = -25°C.
- Recovery: 2 hours at 25°C.
- Attenuation must be measured at least every 10 minutes.
Note: After cycles # 7, 14 and 21, the terminal box must remain for 2 hours at
25° C and then the re-entry operation must be performed.
Procedure:
The polymeric material of optical terminal box must be subject to 10
continuous periods of 8 days with 1 day interval between periods in
weathering chamber.
Procedure:
The terminal box must be exposed for 168 hours at isoctane/toluene attack
(70/30).
