4. Obejctives of the course :


This course is designed to give students:
 an understanding of concept and theory of strategic management, particularly;
o in analyzing environment that affect organisation
o in formulating strategic planning, its implementation and
o in evaluating the performance of the strategic management
 knowledge and skills to develop a business planning

5. Methods of teaching:
The course is conducted through lecture and practicum. The practicum is organised by
the assistant of strategic management and is held in different time schedule. Students
must contact the assistant for the practicum’s schedule. The course content has
relevance to other courses in management such marketing management, HR
management, Financial Management, and Operation Management. This course would
benefits students pursuing a variety of different career goals (marketing, consulting,
entrepreneurship, etc.) in virtually any type of organization (public or private, large or
small, etc.).

a. Mid Exam 30%
b. Final Exam 30%
c. Group Written Report 10%*
d. Quiz 10%**
d. Practicum 20%***

* If you could not contribute to group written report your final grade will be
downgraded based on the input from the member of the group.
* quizes will be given before and or after the class session is begun/finishes.
*** students must attent at least 80% from the total 10 times practicum. Students who
could not attend 80% of the practicum is treated FAIL. The mark of the practicum is
contributed 20% to the final grade of the course.

NOTE:
a. Tests (Mid and Final Exam)
Tests will consist of short-answer identifications (concept applications), short case
analysis, and essay. It will be a CLOSED book exam.
Students are recommended to have a summary from the lecture and the text books for
their preparation to attend the exam.

b. Group Written Report


Each group (consists of 2 students, maximum 3 students) is assigned to write and
present a pre-determined selected topic given by the instructor that relevant to the
topic of the class session. Students should use the references from formal search
engines dedicated by university e.g. Proquest, Emerald, EBSCO, etc . Link as follows:

The content of the written report should follow the outline presented in this guideline
and from the lecture’s notes given in the class.
 The report is written in an Arial font 11, single space, between paragraph uses
double space, the margin (top, bottom, left, right) 3cm.
 The report should contain between 20-30 pages in a single space type format
(Chapter 1, 2, 3, and references excluded Appendices).
 Chapter 1 containts the introduction about the topic and is written around 1-2
pages.
 Chapter 2 containts the topic selected to discussed. It may be taken from
textbooks, journals, research reports, magazines, etc.
 Chapter 3 containts the application of the topic in real company. For example, the
application of Blue Ocean Strategy in Ice Cream Industry, the application of
Corpoate Strategy in Bank Mandiri, etc.
 Appendices may consist of unlimited pages as long as the information is related to
the assignment.
 Please write all the references used for the assigment using Harvard References
writing standard.

Each group should present their business review for a fifteen to a twenty minutes
presentation of their group written report. The presentation must cover the issues
involved in the written report. Video presentation is required to present the ideas. By
the end of the presentation, the members of the reviewer group is assigned to deliver

question, critics and comments to the group presenter (please make you group
reviewers to prepare reading materials of the topics from different sources used by
the presenter group). Lecturers will likely assigned additional assignment related to
the theory presented in the class and will be informed in the class as needed.

c. Practicum

There will be 10 face-to-face meeting in the class supervised by the Teaching Assistant
(TA). The students should attend the whole session of the practicum. Failing to attend
80% of the face-to-face session of the practicum will be dropped from the final
marking of the course. Information about the practicum can be accessed via the link as

Class attendance and participation are required.


An excellent class participation grade can often make the difference to the final
grade. Students will be expected to voluntarily and courteously respond to ideas of
others and your ability to do these tasks well will primarily determine your
participation grade.

9. Academic Dishonesty:
The institution appreciates all students to avoid an academic dishonesty such as
plagiarism (claiming someone else’s thought/views/works/picture etc as theirs) and
cheating. The institution has no tolerance for acts of academic dishonesty. Students
who violate University rules on academic dishonesty are subject to disciplinary
penalties, including the possibility of failure in the course and all couses taken in the
semester.
