This month of August, the Likhenio helped the journalism club: Haraya and
The Vanguard, to encourage students who can participate and represent the
school for the upcoming 2018 District Press Conference.

Franchesca Del Mundo, the club executive head artist, since she had been
a cartoonist for a long time, she taught the background of the editorial
and its importance to a newspaper. Roven Pingol, a grade 12 student
and an editorial cartoonist from Haraya discussed the elements, rules,
possible topics and the critea of judging in cartooning. Lastly, Serena
Herras, another grade 12 student, showed them how to draw some
basic cartoon parts like head, body and clothes, because these are
essential in working on an editorial cartoon.

Some members also shared their experiences in their past school when
they get a chance to join the competition. After that, they proceed
to the actual drawing of an editorial cartoon.

The editorial in chief of the both club selected

the students that participated in the said contest.

Graphite
and
Charcoal
Graphite and charcoal is another kind of medium.
These type of art usually used in working on portraits.
The materials are just graphite pencils, charcoal and
an eraser. It may have small amount of materials
needed, an artist should know how to use it effectively
and efficiently not only to the materials itself but to the
time and effort.

Before the actual drawing using the materials, the assigned artist,
Franchesca Del Mundo together with Serena Herras, introduced the use of the art
materials. Like the different number of graphite pencils, how the thin
and thickness of it can affect your art pieces, the various kind of erasers:
kneaded, soft and electric eraser. They also differentiated the brands
of the charcoal powder that have different capability.

With the help of the admin, the likhenio used the flat screen tv to show the reference
for their activity. Their task is to draw the picture with the use of charcoal or
graphite as realistic as they can. The officers supervised one of them to be their
guide.
This event was the highlight of the club because this caters a lot of medium that the club aims to discuss to. Upon the
approval of the principal, the officers planned what will be the flow of the said event.

The whole day art workshop was titled as Imagine and Create because the club believes that on this day, the
members will surely enjoy how imagining can take them to places that have so much fun and create masterpiece.

The event started with the welcoming speech of the adviser of the club, Mr. Remearson Araza. Likhenio invited
some guest speakers to build different perspectives to the members. The first speaker that gave some lessons
about watercolor was Allyza Albay, a former student of Eugenio Lopez Jr. Center for Media Arts Senior
High School and a first year college student at University of the Philippines. She said, she uses this material
to gain money by selling her works but she also used this to express her feelings and usually, she would
likely to paint when she’s sad or lonely. After sharing her experiences, she showed her artwork and talked
about the techniques that she used. She also gave some of her work to the members that asked good
questions about the medium or tips on doing watercolor works.

The second speakers were both from ELJCMASHS, Moira Ramiro, a grade 12 student together with
Edelwilson Garcia, a grade 11 student, discussed another medium and it was the colored pencil.
Both of them used this material for several years. Edelwilson talked about how to he rendered the
pencil to special paper and said that this technique might take a lot of time but the result would be
great. He showed some of his amazing portraits that he made by using different colors and multiple
layer. After that, Moira did step by step coloring of a detailed eye. The members used same kind
of paper and color with the colored pencils. They finished their work and gave to us, little did they
know, the officers picked 3 of the best work and gave some price to them.

After the lunch break, another guest arrived and he

was Mel Oliveros, he was a fellow teacher to the
school and known for his one of a kind edits.

and
He talked about transforming or altering
photograph using various methods and

techniques to achieve desired results,
this kind of art is called photo
manipulation. He uses Adobe
Photoshop to edit his
pictures and he showed the steps of
it using the television provided by the club. He used
two different persons and mixed their faces.
Then the last, John Roi Abcede, a freelance illustrator/graphic
designer and graduated from Mapua University taught the
members how he uses Adobe Illustrator. He discussed the shortcut
keys of the application to use this easily and gave some tips and
tricks about creating graphics.

All of the speakers received a token of appreciation prepared

by the club and signed by the principal, adviser and chief
executive artist of likhenio. They also announced the 3 best
art works on drawing the eye using colored pencils and the
selected artists were Iezer Magallon, John Divina and Niel
Tagamtam, they were given T-shirts by giving effort to the
activity.
Anatomy

Understanding anatomy is
crucial to many
aspects of any art, it might
be difficult but
this will surely help the ar
tists on several
levels. It is also easier to dr
aw sequences
of movement if the artists
learn this.
The assistant executiv
e artist of the
club, Gaile Vargas introdu
ced this matter.
She discussed how this le
sson can help
them to draw without re
ferences and
draw human figures pr
oportionally.
Roven Pingol talked abou
t the head
and the details of it from ey
es, nose, lips
and other parts of it. He illu
strated how
they should draw these sy
mmetrically.
After a few minutes, Kenn
eth Sagum
taught them to draw the to
rso: both for
female and male. He also
give some
tips on how can they be
sure if they
are drawing proportion
torso and
what are the things that
they should
consider.
Art
Around the globe,
Filipinos were not only known

Month
for having rich agriculture,
white beaches and other
beautiful places
but also known
for having the talents that
contributes a lot in their culture because
they have talents such as dancing, singing, and
acting and even in drawing.
National Arts Month is celebrated every February to promote Philippine arts, including
music, dance, visual arts, architecture, film and literature. Luckily, this year, the founding
anniversary of the school was also celebrated.
Likhenio helped the Student Council to design the stage. The club handled the design of
the backdrop of the stage and it was inspired to the NCAA’s poster for National Art
Month. With the help of our adviser, Mr. Araza, they encourage every section to do
some stencil art by using different colors of cellophane that will be placed in animation
boxes. This animation boxes will light up the stencil art and glow during the event. Their
stencil art were inspired by their section and the other work was done by the members
of likhenio. Such as the logo of the school, ncaa and the likhenio itself. They also did
the stencil of 6 different forms of art: music, dance, visual arts, architecture, film and
literature.
The club also participated on the founding anniversary booths and called the
booth “Kilabooth”, this was a horror mystery game that requires courage to take
the challenge. Student/s that chose to enter the room should complete the task
given and exit the room. The room was filled by scary illustrations made by the
members of the club.
