Introduction
The Philippines is an electoral democracy, but corruption and a lack of transparency continue to
undermine democratic development. Elections have historically been marred by fraud, intimidation, and
political violence.1 While vote-buying and selling has decreased in recent years, it is estimated that
about 30 percent of Filipinos were offered money by a politician or local leader during the 2010 election
campaign.
On the one hand, it could be that vote buying leads to worse public policies when it becomes
a substitute for public good provision. On the other hand, though, vote buying can benefit challengers
and increase political participation. If we were simply to take these results in isolation, we might
interpret them as positive. But improved electoral competition can only help development if there is
real policy accountability – and it is unlikely that vote-buying helps policy accountability.

candidates are capable to do and their weaknesses. This can also serve as their guide to choose the best
candidate based on their capabilities and knowledge not based on the money they are giving during the
midst of the campaign period
The aim of this project is to see in the future that we are able to Expand the greatness of
politics. If we are able to pick a better candidate for our country, we can fulfill our duties us citizens of
this country and as well as securing the well being of our country in the next generations. People doesn’t
realize that we hold the power and not the government that holds us. It’s a matter of being wise. We all

IV. Conclusion
Broadly speaking, vote buying obstructs the democratic process by interfering with the
rights of citizens to freely decide who will represent them and their interests. “This can result in the
candidate with the deepest pockets winning the election, rather than the candidate who would best
serve their constituents. Ideally, elections create a “social contract” between candidates and
constituents who voted with the presumption that the candidates will govern along the lines of their
stated policy platforms.
“Vote buying enables poor governance and undercuts citizens’ ability to hold their elected
officials accountable. If a candidate believes all they need to do to be elected is pay off voters and
government officials, they will have no incentive to be responsive to issues their constituents care about
— issues like water and sanitation, education and unemployment.
Along with damaging the candidate’s credibility, vote buying deters aspiring political leaders
from running for office because it suggests that money, rather than ideas or experience, is how to win
an election. “That discourages qualified candidates from running for office, while entrenching corrupt
officials in their positions.
This is an alarming issue and the state of the nation is at risk so we should be extra careful. Vote
