Dear friends,
PSG Institute of Management has been ranked 33rd in the National
Institutional Ranking Framework conducted by the Ministry of
Human Resource Development, Government of India. At this
juncture, it is indeed worthwhile to introspect the year that has
gone by. This report talks about a plethora of activities, awards,
events and research initiatives that punctuated the entire year.
With such vibrant initiatives, I am sure PSGIM is moving decisively
towards its destined goals. As one of the leading management
institutions, PSGIM has always set benchmarks, and strived for
continuous improvement. A lot of initiatives from academic
research to consultancy to industry interaction have seen the
institute reach the pinnacle of success and these measures will
continue to transform management education and bring laurels to
our esteemed institution. I wish the very best to Dr. R Nandagopal
and his team.

Dear Friends
I am happy to present the annual report for the year 2017-18. This
report will be a great resource in a way that it tracks our activities, in
the class and outside the class, which we believe can impart and
nurture humanistic values. It is to the glory of the institution that we
have some of the best faculty members and best students from this
part of the world. At PSG Institute of Management the emphasis has
always been to be entrepreneurial and industrious as is our legacy.
With this, we give students ample opportunities to excel themselves
in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. We have also had a
lot of achievements in faculty and students and these are now
recorded very well in the pages to follow. There are special pages on
research and consultancy which is an important part of our academic
and industry link initiatives. This annual report will be a good
reference to our achievements and a benchmark to the next
academic year. I also would like to place on record the excellent
work put in by our faculty team and the contribution of our students.
At this juncture, we resolve to march forward with zeal and
determination, guided by our Mission to empower, innovate,
research and nurture.

 About PSGIM
PSG IM is one of the oldest B-Schools in India
and is ranked 33rd in the NIRF rankings of
2017. It was started as the Department of
Management Sciences under the PSG
College of Technology in the year 1964 to
cater to the ever growing need of
management graduates in this region which
witnessed an industrial and entrepreneurial
leap of faith that continues till today. The
Department was granted the 'autonomous
status' by the University of Madras and the
University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1978
and metamorphosed into a full-fledged
institute called the PSG Institute of
Management in 1994. With the PSG & Sons
Charities evincing a keen interest in
management education, the Institute grew
wings and expanded its reach with
international alliances and collaborations
and became a most sought after business

school. The ingraining of entrepreneurship
in its wards is perhaps is one of the best
achievements of this institution which has
churned out innumerable entrepreneurs
and corporate citizens who have left a trail
in the industrial and corporate corridors of
this nation.
PSGIM was the first B-school in India to
achieve the ACBSP International
accreditation which certifies that the
teaching and learning processes within
PSGIM meet rigorous educational
standards. Housed in an independent five
storey building, PSGIM currently has 650
students pursuing their management
programmes. As a leading business school,
PSG Institute of Management works with
faculty, students, alumni and organizations
to create a thriving and challenging
community to work and learn.
 Accreditations

Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP)

PSG IM submitted a quality assurance report (QAR) to the ACBSP board during the month of September 2014
answering to the list of conditions and notes as mentioned by the Board. The Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree
Board of Commissioners met on November 17-18, 2014, and reviewed the quality assurance report. After
review, the board voted with the following points. A complete QAR is to be submitted by September 15, 2015
for removing the existing notes and fulfilling the entire requirement for ACBSP. Based on the QAR submitted by
PSGIM, the ACBSP board removed the note on standard 3, note on criterion 5.2 and reduced the condition on
standard 4, criterion 4.2 to a note.

National Board of Accreditation (NBA)

PSGIM's NBA application was processed and a team visited the campus during October 2017. The Institute
secured the NBA accreditation till 2019.

Rapport 2017 – December 17, 2017
The annual alumni meeting Rapport 2017 was organized on
the 17th of December, 2017 by PSG Management Alumni
Association and PSG Institute of Management at Hotel
Radisson Blu. Mr. V Ramakrishnan, MD Organization
Development Pvt Ltd., Singapore was the chief guest and
spoke on "Re-Architecting MSMEs for Sustained Value
Creation". Mr. Peter Arokiam, Chairman PSGMAA welcomed
the gathering. Dr. R Nandagopal, Director PSGIM spoke on
the various developments at PSGIM. Mr. Madhan Mohan,
Former Chairman PSGMAA introduced the speaker and Dr.
V Thilagam, Secretary PSGMAA proposed the vote of

10th Year Reunion – August 12 2017
The Class of 2007 celebrated their 10th reunion on 12th Aug
2017 at PSG Institute of Management. Around 40 alumni
took part in it. Dr. Nandagopal presided the function and
Dr. V. Thilagam, Secretary, PSG MAA gave a warm welcome
to the alumni. The Alumni honored the faculty with
mementos. Students of PSG IM conducted a game show for
the alumni.
Alumni Meet Chennai Chapter – September 16 2017
PSG MAA Chennai Chapter Alumni Meet was held at Hotel
Woodlands Chennai on 16th Sept 2017 at 6.00pm. Around
37 alumni from Chennai Chapter took part in it. Dr.
Nandagopal Director presided the function and Mr. Peter
Arokiam, Chairman, PSG MAA welcomed the gathering.
After the introduction of the alumni, the office bearers for
the Chennai Chapter were elected. Mr. R.R. Padmanabhan
was elected as the chairman of PSG MAA, Chennai Chapter
and Mr. Jayaram was elected as the secretary.
Lecture on “Persuasion and Influence- the New, Most
Effective Paradigm – August 04 2017
The Lecture was delivered by Mr. Ravikumar visiting
faculty at IIM – Ranchi and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade
– Kolkata. The program dealt with the 6 scientific principles
of persuasion and influence namely deference to
Authority, liking, Social Proof, Scarcity, Commitment and
Consistency, and Reciprocation.
Leadership Development Course “CEO 2030” – July 15
2017
PSG IM and PSG MAA organized “CEO 2030” for the
students. The program was delivered by Mr. Ram
Subramaniam, founder of Shiva Corporation addressed
the gathering. He focused on how the aspiring CEOs can
focus on knowing the position, learning the position,
getting the position. doing the job, keeping the job, leaving
the job.

Brainstorming Session – April 12 2017
PSG IM ranked 26th in the National Institutional Ranking
Framework, Ministry of human Resource Development,
Government of India. On this Occasion a brainstorming
session was conducted and over 25 alumni took part in it.
They enthusiastically participated in the discussion and
shared their thoughts for the betterment of the
Institution.
Summer Camp – April 24 2017
PSGMAA organized a ten day Multi Dimensional Kids
Summer Camp from April 24th to May 6th May at Yoga Hall,
PSG IM. Thirty two kids from the age of 5 to 13 participated
in the camp. The kids were engaged with sessions on Art &
Craft, Yoga, Western Dance, Kids Quiz, Vedic Education,
Traditional Games, Story Telling, Magic Show, Roof
Gardening, Traffic Rules, Basic Etiquette and Manners and
Health Checkup. On the last day of the camp a Valedictory
function was organized. The kids displayed the craft items
they had made, they also staged the dance and yoga they
had learnt during the camp. Mr. N.C. Nandagopal,
Secretary, PSG Schools was the chief guest of the program
and he distributed the certificates to the participants.
Alumni Dr. Sudharani, Dr. Suresh Kumar, Mrs
Kanakamurthy graced the occasion with their presence.
Dr. V. Thilagam, Secretary, PSG MAA gave the vote of
thanks.

 Events @ PSGIM
1. Culture Connect
PSGIM hosts a wide array of events to expose the students
to global culture and also to imbibe our cultural values into
them. The Institute also took an active part in Coimbatore
Vizha to celebrate the legacy of Coimbatore. The
International Culture Show was a highlight of Culture
Connect @ PSGIM
Coimbatore Vizha - January 5-1, 2018
PSGIM extended its cooperation to Coimbatore Vizha
2018, which was held during January 5 - 12, 2018 . Among
the various events that adorned the celebrations, PSGIM
hosted the Short Film Competition and the Treasure Hunt.
The short film focused on the dynamic history and the
plush culture of Coimbatore. There were 63 entries for this
competition, out of which 15 made it to the finals.
Prateeksha, a final year visual communication student of
PSG CAS won the first prize for her film "Anbil Aval". The
Treasure Hunt had 25 teams. Cash prizes were awarded for
the winners. The students from Hindustan College secured
the first prize.
Theatre Play - Intercultural Communication - Oct 23-26
and 30, 2017
The first year MBA, PGDM and GIMS MBA students staged
theatre plays showcasing the culture of 11 countries
during Oct 23 - 26, 30, 2017. Africa, Australia, China, France,

Germany, Italy, Japan, Sri Lanka, UK, UAE and USA were the
countries portrayed in the play. The 20-minute play had a
story line which brought out all the cultural facets of the
country being showcased. This was an experiential
learning for the students who witnessed the play. The
cultural nuances depicted through the plays created an
awareness about the country's culture which is of great
importance in this globalized business environment. This
event was organized by Dr. K. Sri Gayathridevi and Dr. R.
Deepa as part of the Business Communication course.
2. Festivals @ PSGIM
PSGIM has a tradition of celebrating the festivals of India in
the campus to bring in the spirit of brotherhood amongst
the students. Each and every Festival of India is celebrated
with great pomp, glory and religious fervor. The students
also learn their due management lessons by way of
organizing and managing these festivals. This also
strengthens team work and fosters a healthy culture
among the students from diverse backgrounds.
Uvagai 2018, Jan 6, 2018
Uvagai, the annual pongal celebration and extravaganza of
culture, celebration and fun was organized on January 6,
2018. The campus was decorated vibrantly with festive
artifacts that announced the arrival of Pongal.
Competitions like Rangoli, Pongal Making, Uriyadi etc
were held. Traditional activities like Thapattam and
 Events @ PSGIM
Silambattam enthralled the students. An ethnic show was
also conducted. Students and faculty members wore
traditional dresses marking the occasion. Students served
a sumptuous traditional lunch.
Christmas Celebrations - Dec 21, 2017
Christmas was celebrated in the campus on December 21,
2017. Students had organized games and cultural
programs. They had also conducted various competitions
on the eve of Christmas.
Diwali Celebrations - October 13, 2017
Students of PSGIM celebrated Diwali at Manavar Illam on
October 13, 2017. They had organized a cultural program
for the children and also distributed dresses and sweets.
The children were also entertained with a cracker show,
followed by Dinner.
Navasakthi Utsav - September 28, 2017
The students of PSGIM celebrated Navarathri as
Navasakthi Utsav. A grand Kolu was put up in the
reception. Students had a small discourse on the
significance of the dolls put up in the Kolu. A pooja was
performed on September 28, 2017 in which students and
faculty participated.
Onam Celebrations – Samrudhi 2017
The campus vibrated with colors and music on September
9, 2017 to celebrate Onam. Competitions like Pookolam,
Tug of War and Uriyadi were conducted. A delicious Ona
Sadya was arranged by the students. It was a well-planned
event. The Director and Faculty appreciated the students
for their coordinative efforts in organizing the same. The
students had an experiential learning with Samrudhi 2017
3. Industry Connect
PSGIM provides an excellent platform for Industry
exposure to its students. Leaders and experts from
Industry visit the institute to share their knowledge and
experience with the students, helping them better
understand the Corporate World. It also helps the students
to connect theory with practice. Eminent speakers who
visited us during the year were:
· Mr. Ravi Ranjan, Social Entrepreneur delivered a
session on skills of entrepreneurs and business of
start ups on February 24, 2018. This was organized by
Dr. V. Srividya.

· Mr. Yuvarajan Karpaiya, CEO, XBit Asia, delivered a
session on Bitcoin to faculty and students of PSGIM on
February 23, 2018. This was organized by Dr. Srividya
· Mr T Nakkeeran, Head-Learning & TEI at Murugappa
group of companies delivered a lecture on
"Contemporary Learning and Development Practices"
on Feb 2, 2018.
· Mr. Krishnaswamy, AGM, State Bank of India delivered
a session on "Banking Practices" on 24th and 25th
January 2018.
· Mr. V. Parthiban, MD, Bull Machines spoke to the
students on December 18, 2017. Dr. B. Uma
Maheswari had organized this lecture in association
with EO.
· Mr. Sathyakumar, Chartered Accountant Chennai
spoke on "Role of Management Students in building a
nation" and also led a panel discussion, which was
moderated by Dr. Umesh Chandrasekar
· Mr. Sridharan, Assistant VP Sales, DSP Black Rock
delivered a session on "Investor Awareness" on
October 24, 2017
· Ms. Aruna, Chief of AGT Technologies, Coimbatore
delivered a session on "Search Engine Optimization"
for II year MBA/PGDM students as a part of Inbound
Marketing Course taught by Mr. R. S. Sathyanarayanan
· Mr. Senthilkumar Rajappan, Digital Marketing Head -

6. Other Events
Commencement Program – April 27, 2018
The commencement program 2018 was organized on April
27, 2018. Sri. L. Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee, PSG
Institutions presided over. Robert G Burgess, Honorable
Consul General, US Consulate, Chennai was the chief guest
and Dr. Hassan HassabElnaby, Interim Dean, College of
Business and Innovation, University of Toledo was the
guest of honor. Dr. R. Nandagopal, Director, PSGIM gave
the welcoming remarks. The Honorable Consul General
distributed the certificates to the graduating students. He
also delivered the commencement address and presented

Annual Day – March 9, 2018
PSGIM celebrated its annual day with grandeur on March 9,
2018. Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, MLA of Madurai Central
Constituency and Member, Public Accounts Committee,
TN Legislative Assembly was the chief guest. The function
was presided by Sri. L. Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee,
PSG & Sons' Charities Trust. Dr. R. Nandagopal welcomed
the gathering. Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan enthralled the
audience with his interesting speech. He distributed
awards to members of students council, class toppers, and
students who were actively involved in the various club
activities. The class representatives of all the batches were
also honored for their contributions. The I year students
entertained their seniors and the audience with various
cultural programs. The function ended with "Sweet
Memories" a nostalgic video of events in which the
outgoing batch were involved, while they were in campus.

PSGIM.
Professor GRD Endowment Lecture - February 21, 2018
PSGIM organized the Professor GRD Endowment Lecture
on February 21, 2018. Ambassador Dr. Deepak Vohra,

National Priorities, Jan 29, 2018
PSGIM organized a workshop on Inclusive Higher
Education in Changing National Priorities in collaboration
with Shiksha Sanskriti Uttan Nyas on January 29, 2018. Dr.
K. Indirani, State President, SSUN welcomed the gathering.
Dr. Nandagopal, Director PSGIM delivered the presidential
address. Dr. Elayaperumal, Director, Student Affairs, Anna
University gave the key note address. Mr. Atul Kothari,
Secretary SSUN gave the inaugural address. Following this
, there were thematic sessions on Minorities Education,
Women Development and Skill Development. The
afternoon session had a panel discussion on Promoting
Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Around 75 teachers
from schools and colleges in Coimbatore participated in

The Other City - Panel Discussion on City of Future,
Jan 12, 2018
PSG Institute of Management coordinated a discussion on
"The Other City" in collaboration with the India Design
Forum (IDF) and Bonjour India on 12th January 2018. The
programme focused on urban creativity and innovation to
ideate positive change for India's cities of the future. The
Panelists Pierre Ducrozet, Pierre Guyot, Raphael Gastebois
and Vanitha Mohan, gave a special speech about the "The
Other City" project. S. Narayanan moderated the
discussion.
Value-X Report Release
PSGIM organized the two day sales carnival, Valuex during
October 6-7, 2017 under the auspices of the marketing
faculty of PSGIM. A report on the carnival was released by
Sri. L. Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee on December 20,
2017. Dr. R. Nandagopal, Director, PSGIM received the first
copy. Dr. M. Sathish, who coordinated ValueX was also
present.
Fourth Annual PSG-UT Business Plan Competition -
December 2017
The Fourth Annual PSG UT Business plan competition was
held during December 2017. This competition was open to

all colleges and had an overwhelming participation this
year. Six teams were shortlisted for a mentoring session
with Dr Sunny Ariss, Professor of Management and
Entrepreneurship at the University of Toledo held on
December 12th, 2017. Four teams were shortlisted for the
finals scheduled on December 19th, 2017. The team from
PSG Institute of Management emerged the winners
followed by Amrita School of Business
Workshop on Personal Branding - November 24, 2017
Ms. Nanditha Pandey delivered a workshop on "Personal
Branding" to the students on November 24, 2017
Round-Table With US Consulate General - October 12,
2017
PSGIM organized a round-table discussion in collaboration
with US Consulate General, Chennai for aspiring
entrepreneurs. Lauren Lovelace, Consul for Public
Diplomacy and Public Affairs at the Consulate General
moderated the discussion on challenges and opportunities
for entrepreneurs. The key issues affecting entrepreneurs
in Coimbatore were discussed at the round-table, which
was beneficial to the budding entrepreneurs.
ValueX - October 6-7, 2017
The two day sales carnival, Valuex, was held during
October 6-7, 2017 under the auspices of the marketing
faculty of PSGIM. The idea was conceived by Dr. M. Sathish,
who envisioned this to be a student-driven event in its
entirety. The objective was to provide an experiential
learning environment for the students. The carnival was
inaugurated by Dr. R.Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG College
of Technology. Valuex was supported by a title sponsor, 2
sponsors and 20 co-sponsors. There were 45 stalls which
registered around two thousand foot falls. It also had
invited registrations from 20 Institutions, which had sent
250 students. A flagship event "Marketing Meister" was
held for the students in which the winners were presented
with a cash award of twenty thousand. ValueX also
witnessed a sales volume of half a million. The overall
Championship was received by PSG CAS. In the "Marketing
Meister" event, Thiagarajar School of Management,
Madurai, was the winner and PSG CAS the runner. Mr. Arun,
CEO, Audi, Coimbatore graced the Valedictory of ValueX.
Owing to the huge success of Valuex'17, it was officially
declared as a rolling event, with the mantle of Valuex'18
passed on to the next batch.
 Events @ PSGIM
Bayind Summer School - September 14, 2017
The fifth edition of PSG BAYIND Summer School was
scheduled from 28th August to 14th September 2017.
The school was inaugurated on 28th August 2017. There
were 20 students from different universities in Bavaria
across different academic streams who participated in the
program. A series of lectures on business, culture,
Diversity, Politics and Education System in India were
delivered. The participants also visited some industries
related to textile, software and handicrafts. They also
travelled to Chennai, Ooty, Mysore and Bangalore as part
of the Program. Dr.T.G.Vijaya and Ms.Kokilambal co-
ordinated the summer school program.
Rotaract Club Orientation Program September 11, 2017
The orientation program of Rotaract club was organized
on September 11, 2017. The program was organized by the
District Rotaract Representative (DRR) Rtr. Ajay Chandran,
District Trainer. Salient features about the Rotaract club
and its functioning were shared with the members.

Samyog - August 11, 2017
The HR DAY was celebrated on August 11, 2017 as Samyog.
The event was open to all PG students all over South India
who are aspirants of a HR career. The event had 19 teams
from colleges like Christ University Bangalore, Amrita
Business School, PSG CAS, KCT Business School, Kongu
Engineering College (MBA Wing) and GRG school of
management studies. Competitions were organized for
the participating teams, after which 6 teams qualified for
the finale. For the "Best HR Manager" title, 6 students were
selected for the finals. Mr V Meenakshi Sundaram, Head-
HR, Rasi Seeds (P) Ltd. Was the Chief Guest and the judge
for the Finale. Ms. Deepa from PSG CAS and Mr.Sarveshwar
from Christ University were declared Best HR Manager
Winner and Runner up respectively. Christ University won
the Best HR Team and Amrita Business School was the
Runner up.
Persuasion and Influence - Talk: August 4, 2017
PSGIM and PSGMAA decided to offer management
development programs for students and alumni members.
The first lecture in this series was offered on August 4,
2017. Mr. Ravikumar, a management graduate from
Wharton, Coach and corporate trainer in communications
delivered a lecture on "Persuasion and Influence - the new
most effective paradigm.

2. Faculty Forum 2017 – July 6 – 8, 2017
· The faculty forum for 2017 was initiated on July 5,
2017 at PSGIM, with a session on organizational
diagnostics. The aim of this session was to understand
the organizational context in which faculty are to
operate. The participants recorded various aspects.
Each of the ideas was discussed and classified into
heads like Strengths, Opportunities, Challenges,
Areas of Concern, Process improvements and Faculty
related aspects. The faculty team then moved to
Kodaikanal for the rest of the sessions. Five groups
were formed based on the five focus areas identified
in the previous session. Each group was headed by a
Professor and constituted of faculty members from
across the streams. The task for the entire day was to
come out with at least 5 measurable outcomes in the
chosen focus area. The following sessions discussed
the measurable outcomes and achievable objectives
were set for the forthcoming year. The forum was
organized by the General Management Stream at
PSGIM, headed by Dr. T. G. Vijaya

How do I scale up - MDP for CODISSIA Members,
Jan 5, 2018
An MDP "How do I Scale Up" for the members of CODISSIA
was organized on Jan 5, 2018. This one day program
focused on scaling up strategies for small and medium
enterprises and was attended by 22 participants who were
office bearers of CODISSIA, CEOs and Managing Directors.
The President of CODISSIA Mr. V. Sundaram and the
President of SIEMA Mr. K. K. Rajan attended the program.
The one day program ended with a feedback session. In his
concluding remarks, Dr. R. Nandagopal, Director, PSGIM
outlined PSGIM's efforts towards developing the SMEs in
Coimbatore Region.This program was coordinated by Dr.
B. Uma Maheswari and Dr. V. Thilagam.

Achieving Excellence in Research Endeavor - October
13-14, 2017
Dr. R. Krishnaveni and Dr. N. Ramkumar organized the
Ninth National Level Workshop on Achieving Excellence in
Research Endeavor. The program focused on theory and
model building and touched upon few contemporary
software applications like Warp PLS. There were 10
participants from all over Tamilnadu, Kerala and

Flagship Events @ PSGIM

Week of Wonders (WOW) and Srijana are the flagship
programs of PSG Institute of Management. WOW aims at
bringing out the multifaceted skills of students. The year
2016-17 also witnessed the grand gala happening of this
event at PSGIM
Week of Wonders -
September 18 to September 23, 2017
The Week of Wonders - flagship event of PSGIM was
inaugurated on September 18, 2017 with a retro round.
The week long program tested the multiple skills of the
first year students. Several programs like quizzards, free
hit, stock war, Solomon's equity, branding etc were
organized by the second year students. It was a wonderful
opportunity for the students to discover and showcase
their talents. The Finale was held on September 24, 2017.
A cultural competition was also organized. The first five
best managers were interviewed by a panel which
consisted of Dr. Umesh Chandrasekar, Professor, PSGIM,
Ms. Swetha, Chief Manager, CitiUnion Bank, Former BMS
Mr. Jerome Jesudass Mr. Naveen Karunakaran and
Mr. Vignesh. Ms. Naveneetha of MBA B was crowned the
Best Manager 2017, followed by Mr. Varun Sunil of MBA A
in the second place. WOW was organized by the Finance
Stream headed by Dr. V. Srividya

Srijana 2018 - February 23-24, 2018

Srijana - the annual inter-collegiate fest was organized
during February 23-24, 2018. Dr. Nandagopal inaugurated
the event, in which 21 teams from various colleges in
Tamilnadu like Lady Doak college, Loyola Chennai, KCG
Chennai, to name a few participated. Interesting and
innovative management games were organized for the
teams. The overall championship was bagged by Lady Doak
College, Madurai. Srijana 2018 was coordinated by the
team led by Dr. D. Sudharani

Dr. Nandagopal attended the ACBSP Board of
Commissioners' meeting at Kansas City, USA. He also
visited University of Toledo, where he met the President of
UT and the students of PSGIM. Dr. Nandagopal also visited

Path of India" to the students. He also visited the
University of Glasgow, UK.

Maheswari
Dr. K. Arulrajan and Dr. B. Uma Maheswari visited the
College of Business and Innovation , University of Toledo
as part of the faculty exchange program during Sep-Oct
2017 . They visited the Edward H. Schmidt School of
Professional Sales (ESSPS).The visit paved way for
interaction with faculty members of the University of
Toledo in the area of Sales, Marketing and Strategic
Management. Dr. Arulrajan handled a session on "Indian
Economy, Politics and Social Structure" at the University of
Toledo for the students of UT.
Dr. Arulrajan and Dr. Uma Maheswari also visited Carnegie
Mellon University, University of Pittsburg , Kellogs
Business School, and Illinois Institute of Technology. They
attended a session on Strategic Management at Harvard
Business School. Dr. Arulrajan handled a session on
"International Marketing" and Dr. Uma Maheswari handled
a session on "Strategic Management" for the students at
Gardner Webb University – Godbold School of Business.

with the key stakeholders of Gardner Web University
regarding the possibilities of an MOU.
Students
Global Immersion Program
The Global Immersion Program at PSGIM helps students
appreciate and understand the culture, business practices
and the socio-economic, legal and technological factors
influencing business decisions. PSGIM had signed an MOU
with the Asian Institute of Medical, Science and
Technology (AIMST) University Kedah, Malaysia, for the
Global Immersion Program this year.
The first year students of MBA and PGDM totalling 240
visited AIMST University in smaller batches on 40 -50 for a
period of two weeks. Each batch was accompanied by 2
faculty members. The students underwent a week long
certified course at the University. As part of the course the
students had several sessions on Malaysian history,
political environment, economy, business and trade
relations.

Krishnan
The students of AIMST and PSGIM undertook joint projects
to understand the cultural differences between the two
countries, ease of doing business at Malaysia, Malaysian
Infrastructure and resources, Social stratification, gender
roles and risk management strategies in International
financing. The study program involved a visit to SMT
Technologies, a leading manufacturer of medical devices,
consumer products, mobile, industrial and
telecommunication solutions. They also had an
opportunity to visit small business establishments and
rural business centres. The students completed the course
with a poster presentation on the various facets of
Malaysian business, after which, they were presented with
certificates by Dr. Ravichandran Manickam, the Vice
Chancellor of AIMST University. The students also visited
places in Penang, Singapore, Langkawi and Kualalumpur. In
all it was a wonderful immersion program for the students

culture, tradition, customs, food, social and legal practices.
It was an opportunity to understand and appreciate the
people and history of a new country. Students develop an
ability to adapt to different situations, evolve as brave
individuals exhibiting diverse behavior and courage when

Productivity Summit
Productivity Conclave with CPC - February 22, 2018
PSGIM was the knowledge partner with Coimbatore
Productivity Council, in organizing the productivity
conclave on February 22, 2018. The conclave was
organized on the theme "Leveraging Coimbatore Industry
Profile towards Industry 4.0". Mr. Prasath, GM, L&T was the
chief guest. Ms. S.P. Shrivalli, Manager - Innovation Hub,
Titan Company Ltd, Mr. Amaresh Chakrabarti, Indian
Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and Mr. N. Gopalakrishnan,
GM Operations, ARaymond Ltd, Pune were the speakers.
Dr. N. Vivek of PSGIM was the chairman of the organizing
committee of this conclave.
Shaping Young Minds - CMA
PSGIM organized the Shaping Young Minds program in
collaboration with the Coimbatore Management
Association on October 27, 2017. This program provides a
platform for professionals (below the age of 30 years) to
interact with leading icons from different fields. The icons
share anecdotes from their life, and help management
students gather many insights about management of self,
choosing a career and achieving the right work
environment. This year, Mr Piyush Pandey, Dr Arvind Lal, Mr
Firdose Vandrevala, Dr Shikha Nehru Sharma
and Ambassador Dr Deepak Vohra shared their experiences.

National Stock Exchange – NCCMP
National Stock Exchange offers the National Stock
Exchange Certified Capital Market Professional (NCCMP)
in collaboration with PSGIM. This program is available as a
capsule inclusive of the various NCFM modules. A batch
comprising of 10 students have taken up this course which
started from December 2017
Coimbatore Toastmasters Club
Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational
organization that teaches public speaking and leadership
skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations.
PSGIM supports “The Coimbatore Toastmasters Club”. The
members of the club meet every week on Saturday at the
PSGIM premises and pursue their goals. The students of
PSGIM show keen interest in joining this club in order to
hone their communication skills.
Coimbatore Quiz Club
PSGIM has an ongoing partnership with Coimbatore Quiz
Club. CQC conducts its quiz programs at PSGIM. The
students of PSGIM also participate in the quizzes
conducted by CQC.
 Placements

The placement season for the Batch of 2016- 2018 was successful with nearly 180 students placed as on March 2018. PSGIM
hosted 65 companies in the process, resulting in over 180 final offers. The placement team looks forward to achieving a
target of 100% placements this year with more number of companies still scheduled for campus visits in April 2018. There
were over two dozen new companies spanning for IT services to retail giants, FMCGs this year.

planned and focused research efforts not only enrich the
pedagogy but also provide an interface with the wider

Dr. V. Srividya executed a consultancy project on the
Financial Viability and Marketability of Nature Retreat at
Coimbatore
Yash Metals - Dr. N. L. Balasudarsun
Dr. N. L. Balasudarsun is currently working on a consultancy
with Yash Metaks in Tamilnadu on Market opportunities.
The consultancy is ongoing since January 2018
SAP FI-CO Training Workshop - Feb 16-18, 2018
THe SAP FI-CO training workshop was organized for the
BCom and MCom students of PSG College of Arts and
Science during Feb 16-18, 2019. This workshop was
attended by 24 students and one faculty member. Mr. M. S.
Karthikeyan delivered the workshop in which hands-on
training in SAP FI and CO was given to the students.

 Socially Responsible Initiatives at PSGIM

Friends of Police - Student Wing Inauguration April 9,
2018
The student wing of the "Friends of Police" was
inaugurated at PSG Institute of Management on April 9,
2018. Dr. Pradeep V Phillip IPS, Additional Director
General of Police, Civil Supplies CID, Founder of Friends of
Police inaugurated the student wing and spoke to the
students on the benefits of joining Friends of Police. Dr. R.
Nandagopal, Director, PSGIM presided over the function.
He also felicitated two PGDM students who were
instrumental in starting the wing at PSGIM.
Buttermilk Distribution - April 9, 2018
The students of I PGDM distributed buttermilk to the
public on April 9, 2018 as part of their Manager is Society
Sharing (MSS) initiative. Dr. R. Nandagopal inaugurated the
distribution.
Food Waste Management
The students of PSGIM collected the excess food after a
few events and distributed them to the needy. This was
done for Kovai Vizha and the farewell party organized by
the I year PGDM students for their seniors. The remaining
food was neatly packed in small containers and distributed
to the hungry and needy near the college at Avinashi road.
World Cancer Day
The students of PSGIM conducted a music program once a
month in January and February to soothe the minds of the
patients at the Cancer ward of the Government Hospital,
Coimbatore. High protein health mix powder was
distributed to the chemotherapy patients on account of
the same.
there is a need for proper disposal of sanitary pads in
educational institutions. The students installed a sanitary
napkin incinerator at the Government Arts College,
Coimbatore and also educated the students and staff on
the need for menstrual hygiene
Learning Centre at Juvenile Justice Board
The idea took shape with the initiative of organizing a
Book Collection drive across the cities of Coimbatore and
Chennai with the theme saying “Share the joy of reading
with the deserving.” The drive was organized for 20 days
and the total number of books collected were 300. The
books include school text books and guides from grade 6
to grade 10 , story books , puzzles and comics. Using these
books, a learning center was established at the Juvenile
Justice Board, Avinashi Road on April 26, 2018. Mr. T. N.
Hariharan, I. A. S, Collector of Coimbatore and Dr.
R.Nandagopal, Director PSGIM graced the occassion.
Cloth Collection and Distribution Drive
Two teams of students one at Coimbatore and one at
Chennai initiated a cloth collection drive. They spread this
campaign through social media, friends network and cold
calling and had planned to collect 150 sets of clothes for
Men and Women in three broad categories kids, adult and
elderly. Through their efforts, they collected 300 sets and
distributed the same at various shelter homes across
Coimbatore on April 29, 2018

Stationery Drive

A stationery pack drive was launched to help the

underprivileged children. The goal was to collect 250
stationery packs for distribution. A drop box was left at
PSG College of Arts and Science. With the overwhelming
contribution from the students of PSG CAS, PSGIM
students were able to hand over a stationery pack
consisting of pen, pencil, sharpener, eraser, and scale was
handed over to 356 Students of the Gandhi Ma Nagar
Government High School.

Installation of Sanitary Napkin Incinerator

In order to address the issue surrounding menstrual

hygiene, provide solutions and educate woman about the
need for it, the students did a ground work and found that

Education at their Annual Convention for MBA, MCA,
Architecture and Pharmacy colleges for his achievement in
academics, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and

PADMAVATHY STUDENT CHAPTER, BEST STUDENT
AWARD and Abilash N of II MBA received the CMA -
ENTYCE, BEST MANAGEMENT STUDENT AWARD from
Ambassador Dr. Deepak Vohra at the National
Management Day Awards Ceremony on Feb 21, 2018
Students of MBA and PGDM programs bagged several
awards at the National Student Management Day
organized by the Coimbatore Management Association.
· Sharukh Shamsudin, Jayasri S and Kiran Mani of II MBA
secured the first place; Gokul, Praveen and Vyshali
secured the second place in the Debate Competition.
· Kishore, Navaneetha, Vishnupriya and Naveen
secured the first place; Bura Madhan Mohan, Shyam
and Vijay Bharadwaj secured the second place in the
Paper Presentation.
· Bharath Surya, Harihara Puthra Sharma and
Shanmuga Praveen won the third place in Manager for
Social Good.
Yuvaraj of II PGDM bagged the Silver medal in the We
School Innovation Award (student level) at the Annual
AIMS Convention held at Pune in August 2017
Students of PSGIM participated in several management

2. Induction Program Internships

Induction Program MBA Full Time
The induction program for the MBA batch of 2017-19 was
held during July 21 and August 3, 2017. The students
listened to eminent people and were also given
orientation about the campus, the learning management
system and LRC. They also visited Anakatty as part of the
induction program.
Induction Program PT MBA
The induction program for the Part Time MBA students
was held on July 22, 2017 at the Alumni Hall. The students
were introduced to the faculty and facilities at PSGIM.
Induction Program International MBA
The International MBA program was inaugurated on June
28, 2017. The students were welcomed and given an
introduction to the PSG Legacy, Campus, Director and the
Faculty team. They were also briefed about the library
usage, hostel process, financial assistance available from
banks, student activities, Winnou campus management
system and the ALPS center. Mr. Varadarajan, Wholetime
Director, Rajshree sugars, spoke about “Understanding
current business scenario”. The students were also given
sessions on Managing Life by Dr. Ponni, Psychiatrist, KG
Hospital. The induction program concluded with a visit to
the ALPS center at Anakatty, where they indulged in
experiential learning activities. A “Hyagreevar Homam”
was conducted on July 2, 2017 for the auspicious start of
the academic year.
All the MBA and PGDM students started their internships
during May 2017. Faculty teams visited the various
organizations in which students where interning, during
June 2017. Students had secured good feedback from the
organizational guides. It was also a networking
opportunity for faculty, who has explored the various
industry connect avenues.
3. Programs Organized
Rotaract Club
RTR Ajay Chandran, District Trainer conducted an
orientation program on September 11, 2017. The
installation ceremony was held on October 5, 2017. Mr.
Jyothish Pillai, Rotary Secretary, Rotary Club of
Coimbatore Main was the Chief Guest. Dr. R. Nandagopal
presided over.
Rotaract Club Orientation Program September 11, 2017
The orientation program of Rotaract club was organized
on September 11, 2017. The program was organized by the
District Rotaract Representative (DRR) Rtr. Ajay Chandran,
District Trainer. Salient features about the Rotaract club
and its functioning were shared with the members.
4. Semester Exchange Program
· Ms. Franziska Patzer from the University of Bochum
had spent one semester at PSGIM during Aug 2017 to
Feb 2018.
· Ms. Shubangi from the Hof University of Applied
Sciences had taken up a semester course at PSGIM
druing Oct 2017 to Dec 2017.
