CameraCare and Storage
(1) The camerais a precisioninstrument. Do not dropit or subjectit to
physicalshock.
(2) Thiscamerais not waterproofand cannotbe usedundenruater. lf the
cameragets reallywet,promptlyconsultyour nearestCanonService
Center.Wipeoff anywaterdroplets witha dry cloth.lf the camerahas d
beenexposedto saltyair,wipewitha well-wrungdampcloth.
(3) Do not leavethe camerain placesproneto excessiveheatsuchas in
a car on a sunnyday. Excessiveheatcan causethe camerato
malfunction.
(4) The cameracontainsprecision electronic
circuitry.Neverattemptto
disassemble the camera.
(5) Useonlya blowerbrushto blowawayduston the lens,eyepiece,
mirror,focusingscreen,andfilmcompartment. Do notcleanthe
camerabodyor lenswitha cleanercontaining an organicsolvent.For
stubborndirt,consultyournearestCanonServiceCenter.
(6) The shuttercurtainsare extremely thin.Useonlya blowerto clean
them.Be carefulnotto blowairtoo forcefully on the shuttercurtains.
The shuttercuftainscan be easilydeformed or damaged. Also,when
' loadingand unloading film,be carefulnotto touchthe shuttercurtains.
(7) Do nottouchthe electricalcontactswithyourfingers.Otherwise
corrosion maydevelopon the contacts, resultingin improper camera
operation.
(8) lf the camerais not to be usedfor an extendedperiod,removethe
battery.Storethe camerain a well-ventilated, cool,dry place.During
the storageperiod,pressthe shutterbuttonto releasethe shuttera
fewtimesoncein a while.
(9) Avoidstoringthe camerain a laboratory, cabinet,etc.,wherecorrosive
chemicals are present.
(10)lf the camerahasnotbeenusedfor an extendedperiodor if the
camerais to be usedfor an imporlantevent,checkthe operationof all
the cameracontrolsor take it to your nearestCanonServiceCenter
for inspection.
(11)Afterdetaching the lensf romthe camera,put on the lenscapsor put
downthe lenswiththe rearend up to avoidscratching the lenssurface
and electricalcontacts.
(12)Evenwhenthe MainSwitchis set to < GF >, a smallamountof power
to the camera'sLCDpanel.However,
is stillsupplied thisdoesnot
affectthe numberof film rollswhichcan be takenwiththe battery.

LCD Displays
In time,the camera'sLCDpaneldisplayandthe LCDdisplayin the
viewfinder mayfadeand becomedifficult to read.lf thishappens,haveit
replaced(at cost)by a CanonServiceCenter.
At lowtemperatures, the LCDdisplayresponsemay becomeslower.And
at 60'C or highertemperatures,the displaymayblacken.In eithercase,
the displaywillreturnto normalat roomtemperature.

Lithium Batteries
(1) The cameraoperateson two CR123Alithiumbatteries. Checkthe
batterylevelin the followingcases(-+page18):
. Afterreplacingthe batteries.
. Afternot usingthe camerafor an extendedperiod.
. Theshutterstopsworking.
. Thecamerais beingusedin a low-temperature environment.
. Youwillbe shootingan important event.
(2) Beforeinstallingthe batteries,wipethe batterycontactsto removeany
fingerprintsandsmudges. Thisis to preventfaultyconnections and
corrosion.
(3) Neverdisassemble or rechargethe batteries.Also,neverstorea
batteryin high-temperature placesor shortcircuitthe batterycontacts
or tossa batteryintoa fire.
(4) Althoughthe batteriesworkwell evenat lowtemperatures, battery
performance maydeclineslightlyat freezingtemperatures. In sucha
case,keepsparebatterieswarmin a pocket,etc.,and use and warm
the batteriesalternately.

How Low Battery Levels Affect Camera Operation


On the LCDpanel,if the < 0 > iconblinksor it is notdisplayed,
a proper
exposurecan stillbe obtainedas longas the shutterreleases.However,
whenthe batterylevelis low,film advanceand auto rewindmightstop
midwayor notworkat all and < fl > mayblinkon the LCDpanel.Afterthe
batteriesare replacedwithnewones,filmadvancewillbe possibleandfilm
rewindcan resumeby pressingthe < 03! > button.

Mounting a Lens
Remove the caps.
. Removethe rear lens cap and the
camera body cap.
Mount the lens.
. Align the red dots on the lens and
camera and turn the lens as shown
by the arrow until it snaps in place.

The EOS camera's shutter button can be depressed halfway or all the way.
There is a click stop at the halfwaypoint.

Pressing the Shutter Button Halfway or Completely


The shutterbuttonworks as describedbelow.

When it is pressed halfway:


. Autofocusingis activated,and when
focus is achieved,the focusingpoint
flashesand the beeper sounds.The
i n - f o c u si n d i c a t o r< O > o n t h e
viewfinder'slower right also lights.
. Also, the shutterspeed and aperture
are set and displayedon the LCD
panel and in the viewfinder.

When it is pressed completely:


. The shutteris releasedto take the f
pictureand the film advancesby one
frame.

Camera shake can cause blurred pictures.To prevent blurred picturesdue to
camera shake:
' Hold the camera steady (see page 26).
. Use the center of your finger to touch the shutter button,grasp the camera
with your entire right hand, then press the shutter button gently.
. lf the AF Mode Dial has been set to . tl*uo >, the in-focusindicator< O > will
not light.
. lf the AF Mode Dial has been set to . $l*uo> and automatic focusing point

Open the camera back.
. Slide the camera back lever down as

Insert the film cartridge at an
angle as shown in the illustration.
. Set the Command Dial to any setting

The camera reads the film cartridge'sDX code and sets the film speed
