Project for Teaching and Training Lead

My boss assigned me to reimagine the teaching and training tools for our new partners training
program. The main idea is to fill in the gaps in which baristas are saying they were not or would like to
see in there training. To gain aspect of this gap in training and the tools provided I am going to use some
technologies recently learned in my EDT 180 class. The fist technology application I am going to use is a
google form to survey the new partners and their trainers of gaps and things they would like to see in
the training modules. The second is to create a pikto chart of the information to show visually the
information that was gathered from the surveys. Lastly, I would then create a digital story of what can
be changed and how to give ideas for the future growth and improvements of teaching and training for
Starbucks.

The first step is to create my google form which is a survey in how their experience was in the
current training process. The survey would ask first what they liked about the training program
regarding the sections it is split up in. For example, the training for the Register transactions, what did
they like about the digital training and then the on floor “hands on training.” Then the next question
would lead into what they think would improve the process before the hands-on training with their
barista trainer. After about hundred surveys this would allow us to create enough data to create a chart
and graphic information to show what new partners liked, disliked and how they would improve the
training experience.

Secondly would be the visual presentation of the data collected with a pikto-chart. This pikto-
chart would allow my team and I to easily show visually what partners have said in the surveys. Our
pikto-chart would include data in charts and graphs of the percentage of partners who overall think the
training program is good as it, and those whom think that it could improve. This would allow us to have
greater leverage in speaking to and convincing the company to move forward with some changes to
improve it. Other charts would be showing the top three results in what would be best to change such
as creating a virtual lesson on the Point of Sale system used in store.

Lastly, after the chart and discussion of our results from our survey my team and I would then
create a digital story of what improvements can be made easily, what it would look like and the benefits
from the change. My teams’ digital story would illustrate a specific change in the training, what it could
possibly look like and how it would benefit the overall success of partners feeling more prepared for the
systems we use and how to execute them.

Overall the project seemed to be a large success in allowing fellow leaders in understanding the
viewpoints of new partners and their training process through our survey. Being able to show and share
our results visually helped to spread the word to the higher company leaders and partners to ensure
engagement, understanding and involvement in changing some things within our training process and
digital programs. The example shows through our digital story then helped to spark ideas to help
enhance the experience for training process within our stores. Throughout this project I have noticed
the relationship between what I learned and how to apply it in real work scenarios, and how to reach
out and teach others on how to use pikto-chart, google forms, and digital stories to ensure project
details and messages can get across and shared more easily.
