TITLE

I. INTRODUCTION

Hello! This is the format of your discussion paper in Philippine Literature. Use Arial
’12 in the body. The Title and Parts and are designed already. No need to modify. Use
the regular font style for neatness. Consider also using Justify. The spacing is already
perfected.

In the introduction, conceptualize the background of the author and reasons of writing
the literary piece. Observe synthesis, unity, coherence and emphasis. Plagiarism is the
work of lazy and unprepared individuals.

Introduction with a neat transition and brevity are well commended. Use third person
perspective. Entice your readers with logical and strong intros.

II. ELEMENTS
Type of Literature:
Atmosphere: (time, date, mood of the characters)
Characters: (list down the important roles. Include whether they are flat or
dynamic.)
Themes: (Theme is not a single word. It is a general idea, a sentence that
highlights the meaning and essence of the piece. It is also different from a
lesson/moral)
Symbols: (These are objects which have different meanings in the piece. E.g.
the “leaf” in O. Henry’s “The Last Leaf” in means life, hope and sacrifice.)

III. DISCUSSION GUIDE

A. Exposition
A three-sentence paragraph composing the introduction of the piece.

B. Complication

Present and determine the kind of conflict/s used by the author. Use evidences
like statements of the characters or hints. Make two-sentence paragraph for
each conflict.

C. Climax

Illustrate the most important part of the story in just a four-sentence paragraph.
Explain the change of course of the events using evidences

D. Resolution

Analyze how does the conflict begin to resolve. State that in a two-sentence
paragraph.

E. Denoument

(This part is optional because of some open-ended stories.) State how did the
author end the piece using a two-sentence paragraph.

IV. GENERALIZATION
Wrap up the whole discussion in its simplest language. Pinpoint the
highlights and stress the new key ideas.

V. REALIZATIONS
Explain your own thoughts and learnings while and after reading the piece.
