INTRODUCTION
The name of project is pipe leak indicator.
The basic concept used in this project is of
Ions transfer from water after adding salt.
We have taken an electricity board,
Assembled the circuit of switches, joined
Led lights, a plastic glass which has two
separate ends of wire attached in the glass.

Resources used
Wooden switch board
LED Lights and Switches
Plastic glass and battery
Wires and Salt
WORKING
First we switch on the circuit. The circuit is
ON but the LED lights will not blink as the
circuit is not completed because the two
ends of wire in glass are separate and not
connected. when we add NaCl [salt]
And water, immediately the Na and Cl ions
mix in water, they complete the circuit and
the led lights glow. The battery is turned
on and creates a voltage difference
across the electrodes. Nothing is
conducting at this point and no current
is flowing. This voltage difference (and
possible excess charge accumulation)
sets up an electric field in the solution.
This attracts the positive Na+ ions to the
negative anode, as the positive cathode
attracts the negative Cl- ions. Below is a
picture I found in a PDF titled 'Electrical
Conduction in Solutions' that illustrates
this nicely. Naive chemistry tells us this
is the reaction that occurs when salt is
dissolved in water:
NaCl(s) + H20(l) → Na+(aq) + Cl-(aq) +
H20(l)
the negative accumulation of electrons
at the anode provides the excess
electrons needed to decomposes H20
into OH- and H+:
Anode (reduction): 2 H2O(l) + 2e- →
H2(g) + 2 OH-(aq)
When NaCl is added to water, it is the
Cl- ions are the ones that actually reach
the cathode and react to deposit their
electrons:
Cathode (oxidation): 2 Cl-(aq) → Cl2(g)
+ 2e-
H20 picks up electrons at the anode and
the OH- atoms carry it to the cathode. At
the same time, the Cl- ions that
dissociated in the water move towards
the cathode and deposit electrons to
become a gas. Thus the net movement of
electrons from anode to cathode is
complete and a current can flow.
APPLICATIONS
This concept can be used
mostly in industrial areas and
underground areas where
chemicals are transferred and
where the wires are passing
below the pipes.we can locate
this on sensitive areas where
pipe leak can take place.in the
areas where more force of water
is applied on corners and edges.
CONCLUSION
The aim of making project was to get
experience of performing chemisrty
practically.we also learned how to work
in group what a team work is.
Our project worked succesfully and it
can be used effectively in indutries and
others areas where pipelines are present.
