Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool


Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and
Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change".

2. Remove bolts (2) . Remove engine oil pan (1) and the gasket.

1. Clean the mating surface of engine oil pan (1) and the cylinder block. Apply Tooling (A) to
four areas on the sealing surface of the oil pan. The areas are Marked Location (Y) .

2. Place a new gasket and engine oil pan (1) on the cylinder block.

3. Tighten four Oil Pan Bolts (X) .

4. Start with Bolt (Z) and tighten all remaining bolts (2) in a counterclockwise sequence.

5. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 31 ± 1 N·m (23 ± 1 lb ft).

6. Start again with Bolt (Z) and tighten all remaining bolts in a counterclockwise sequence.

7. Tighten bolts (2) again to a torque of 31 ± 1 N·m (23 ± 1 lb ft).

8. Fill the engine with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual,
"Engine Oil - Change" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
