CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

The purpose of this chapter is to explain in detail the procedures and

methodology implemented for the study. The researchers will first explain the

research design, then the respondents of the study. This will be followed by

the discussion of sampling technique and procedure. The chapter then goes

on to discuss the data gathering instrument and data gathering procedure.

And lastly the statistical treatment used in analyzing the data.

Research Design

The study that will be conducted by the researchers is quantitative in

nature since there are variables and factors that will be measured. Also for

this reason, the researchers utilized Descriptive Research Design as it gives

some valuable pointers as to what variables are worth testing for and involves

gathering of data that describe events and organizes, tabulates, depicts, and

describes data collection. It is called an observational research method

because none of the variables that are part of the research study are

influenced in any capacity (Bhat,2018). It is composed of variables that can

be manipulated by the researcher, and variables that can be measured,

calculated and compared. This is the most suitable design for the study since

the researchers were trying to evaluate the overall performance of the

product.
Respondents of the Study

The study will take place in the premises of the First Asia Institute of

Technology and Humanities. The researchers considered the Grade 11

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students as

their respondents since they find them as the most suitable and convenient

students to get the data from considering the fact that they are also aligned

in the STEM strand. The researchers also considered the respondents’

availability in terms of their workload therefore the selected population best

suit the aspect.

Sampling Technique and Procedure

A stratified random sampling procedure was used for selecting the

participants in the study. This technique was employed to ensure a fairly

equal representation of the variables of the study. The stratification was

based on the sections of Grade 11 STEM Students from the Fidelis Senior

High School. Within each section, selection of students was done by simple

random sampling.

Proportionate stratified random sampling was employed to select

….from the entire population of the Grade 11 STEM Students.

Data Gathering Instrument

A self-constructed survey questionnaire was designed by the

researchers that will be used as the instrument in gathering the data from the
respondents to achieve the main goal of the study. The primary aim of the

questionnaire is to determine the overall performance of the “Detachable

Electricity Generating Insole”. The content of the instrument directly reflects

the overall performance of the product, including statements that represent

several factors such as functionality, implementation, benefits, production

and amenity.

The instrument was structured in such a way that respondents will be

able to answer it easily, thus the set of questionnaire was organized in the

modified Likert fashion on a 4-point scale, ranging from “strongly agree” (SA),

through “agree” (A), “disagree” (D), to “strongly disagree” (SD). Subjects were

then instructed to respond to their degree of agreement with the statements

contained in the instrument.

Data Gathering Procedure

The first step before gathering the data needed was to make a request

letter to be approved by the coordinator of Fidelis Senior High School and the

research adviser, to administer the questionnaires. Upon approval, the

researchers reclaim the request letter.

In conducting the survey, the researchers used the students’ free time

so they can answer it without being distracted from class. After the

respondents finished answering the questionnaire, it was retrieved, checked,

tallied, and recorded in tabularized form and the data were treated

statistically.
Statistical Treatment

Data gathered were sorted depending on the designated tables of a

Likert Scale using the following statistical tools.

Likert Scale. This scale was used for the verbal interpretation of

descriptions from gathered points presented below.

Table. Likert Scale Verbal Interpretation

Scale Range VERBAL DESCRIPTION

4 3.26-4.00 Strongly Agree

3 2.51-3.25 Agree

2 1.76-2.50 Disagree

1 1.00-1.75 Strongly Disagree

Frequency Distribution. This is for the whole value of every

statement on the survey questionnaire.

Response Rate. This is the number of people who answered the

survey expressed in the form of percentage represented below.

𝑄𝑅
𝑅𝑅 = × 100
𝑁𝑅

Where:

𝑄𝑅 = 𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑒𝑠

𝑁𝑅 = 𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠

Weighted Mean. This tool was used to determine the mean

according to the number of respondents represented by the formula below.

𝑋𝑖 𝑊𝑖
𝑋=
𝑁

Where:

𝑋𝑖 = 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠

𝑊𝑖 = 𝑙𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝑎𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡

𝑁 = 𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠

Composite Mean. This was used to establish the whole response

regarding the product using the formula presented below.

∑𝑋
𝑋𝐶𝑀 =
𝑁

Where:

𝑋𝐶𝑀 = 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑡𝑒 𝑀𝑒𝑎𝑛

∑𝑋 = 𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑒𝑠 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑡

𝑁 = 𝑡𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑒𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑡
