Section 20
How effective was this instructor in teaching challenging concepts or skills?

Things were not really explained...we were expected to read the textbook and understand on
our own.

Well organized
How effective was this instructor in organizing the course content to enhance learning?

It was obvious she spend a lot of time trying to find the best way to organize the content.

I thought the course was organized well. It made it a lot less stressful to get assignments in on
time when we pushed the due date back to midnight the night of rather than midnight the night
before.

Opportunities to get help

How effective was this instructor in helping students who indicated a need for assistance?

Sister Johnson was great at making herself available to anyone who had questions about
anything.

Professor Johnson was a huge help with assistance and questions.

Great organization to help us get everything done on time.

Having another scheduled meeting with Sis. Johnson and the TA earlier on, specifically at the
beginning of working on the lit review, would be extremely beneficial. At least for me, my
schedule was too full to allow me much time out of class to meet. Having those scheduled
meetings was really helpful, but another one earlier on would've helped me a lot more.

Thanks for everything! This was an enjoyable class for what it is. It was a fair amount of work,
but not too bad for an upper-level writing class, and I felt like I learned a lot.
I really loved sister Johnson. She took a subject I was not excited for and made it useful and
helpful in the real world! And I can tell that she cares deeply about her students.

I really appreciated how Sister Johnson accepted feedback from the students and tried to
structure the course in a mutually beneficial way. Great class!

Timing of assignments due could be better as well as teaching some concepts earlier in the
semester.

It was much better than I expected it to be.

I’ve enjoyed this class a lot more than I thought. Professor Johnson made it a painless
experience even though I don’t like writing.

She is awesome! Great teacher for this course!

great, great, great teacher. I don't enjoy writing, but I didn't feel overwhelmed by this class. She
does a great job of making a GE not feel so inapplicable to careers.

Lisa is amazing! Such a great teacher. Love her and love the class! She taught me great skills for
the future.

I became more confident in my writing in this class with the help of Sister Johnson.

Sister Johnson is a great teacher who cares about her students!

Sister Johnson is a great professor and she has the class set up in a very doable way. I have
heard horror stories about this class form other friends, but this course was exactly what I
hoped it would be. It was straight forward, graded fairly, only required time expected of a 3
credit class and had lots of help tools available for those who needed them. I would say that for
peer reviewing of our primary lit papers, maybe have different groups each time so that people
who have members who don't actually review will be able to get feedback from other people
the next time. I know this means that group members won't be very knowledgable about the
paper, but at least they should get valuable feedback at least once.
Section 14
The timeline was new and a little weird. The lit review was talked about, but we didn't do
anything with it until things were due.

I like that you even asked our class for feedback. Every student is a critic.

Cared a lot about effective organization, frequently asked for feedback on how to improve it.

Learning Suite could have been organized a little better. It was inconsistent in some places.

I felt like I could email you or talk to you whenever, and you were so kind about all of my
questions and conferences.

This class encouraged me a lot to be a better writer. Thank you!

Always listened to and respected the students.

I think that Dr. Johnson did a good job as an instructor of the course. I don't know if it is just the
nature of the course, but I kind of felt like it was just something that we were required to do. I
have enjoyed working with Dr. Johnson and she has been understanding and helpful.

I liked that the due dates were set, but also flexible. I had a lot going on in other classes this
semester and it helped to push things around sometimes.

I loved all the guest speakers that came in to talk about random, useful things like
resumes/cover letters, visual design, LinkedIn/Handshake, and teamwork. I also, personally,
really enjoyed the Microcore program, especially at the beginning of the semester when school
hadn't gotten as busy yet. I also really enjoyed her grading policy. She was a lot less rigid, and
allowed us to have more flexibility in how we approached things. In previous English classes, I
really focused on hitting the requirements and targeting the papers to the teacher to get a good
grade, but in this class I focused more on the writing, rather than the grades, and I really
enjoyed it.

I do not like writing. I was nervous to take this class because of how subjective grading can be.
Professor Johnson made her expectations very clear and she was extremely helpful assisting
outside of class. She was also understanding of extenuating circumstances and accommodated
everyone.

She is an incredible, respectful teacher who cares about her students

She tailored the class to fit the needs of the students. At the same time, she was able to impart
skills essential to our post-graduate life.
I loved that we were forced to work on our projects in steps rather than turn it in all at once,
because it helped me be more organized and more free at the end of the semester.

I think the best improvement would be to eliminate the library session. I really think that it was
a waste of time, especially considering everything I learned from Prof Johnson. She prepared us
sufficiently to write the literature review.

Lisa is a very good teacher who is dedicated to helping students get over their fear of writing
and instills confidence in people like me who are adverse to writing

She was a good professor for the course, but sometimes it was hard knowing what I needed to
do because Learning Suite confused me.
