Resource Development Coordinator

GENERAL NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:


The Resource Development Coordinator provides professional staff support to the Columbia
Gorge Community College Foundation Board. This position is responsible for: developing policies
and procedures for adoption by the CGCC Foundation Board; organizing and implementing
Foundation Board activities and projects; developing strategies for receiving, accepting,
disbursing, and acknowledging gifts; and coordinating foundation activity with the college staff.
The Resource Development Coordinator provides information and technical support to college-
initiated projects when needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


1. Assists the Resource Development Executive Director in formulating, determining, and
effectuating management policies in the area of resource development.
2. Coordinates fund-raising and friend-raising efforts among the staff and community.
Fund-raising efforts include annual campaigns, employee campaigns, and special events.
Friend-raising involves communication with constituents and the media, invitations to
special events, and publicizing foundation activities and accomplishments.
3. Builds relationships with community groups, businesses, and individuals to develop
resources to support students and CGCC Foundation projects.
4. Recruits board members and volunteers for special events and activities. Identifies tasks
and makes assignments.
5. Assists Resource Development Executive Director in board development and appropriate
training.
6. Prepares and disseminates information about the CGCC Foundation and giving
opportunities.
7. Maintains records and database information on prospective, past and current donors.
8. Acknowledges contributions and gives recognition to donors and volunteers.
9. Composes and prepares correspondence, minutes, agendas, annual work plan, and
reports for the Resource Development Office.
10. Plans and schedules regular and special meetings for CGCC Foundation Board and/or
Resource Development Executive Director. Gathers, prepares, and distributes supporting
documents, calendars, and pertinent material.
11. Develops and coordinates production of communication media such as newsletters,
brochures, special marketing and promotional materials, and web page content.
12. Handles confidential information related to Resource Development and Foundation
donors.
13. Manages foundation records and maintains resource development office filing system.
14. Works with college personnel regarding facility arrangements, equipment maintenance
and repairs, office supplies, or other needs.
15. Monitors CGCC Foundation accounts and Resource Development office budget. Prepares
business forms and processes bills for payment by the college or the foundation.
16. Receives visitors, telephone calls, and mail. May route inquiries to others.
17. Coordinates Foundation sub-committee meetings and conducts research tasks as needed.
18. Maintains active membership in Council of Resource Development. May participate in
quarterly or annual meetings and conferences. Subscribes to CRD listserv (electronic
news and discussion forum for members).

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
1. Assist the Dean of Student Services and the scholarship coordinator with scholarship
program; i.e., recruitment of volunteers to interview applicants, provide criteria information
for restricted scholarships, etc.
2. Write articles for publication in college newsletter or local newspapers.
3. Staff support for Columbia Gorge chapter of Society for Human Resource Management.
Sends meeting notices, arranges use of college facilities, maintains membership database.
4. May submit grant proposals to private foundations for scholarships.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS


1. Greets public and provides general information.
2. Order supplies as needed.

SUPERVISES THE FOLLOWING:


Resource Development Center support staff; Work-study students as assigned; Volunteers

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in areas of fund-raising through
campaigns or special events. Experience in recruiting and/or managing volunteers is
preferred.

2. Educational background: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications,


Public Administration or related field. Any advanced degrees, specialized training, or
certification in development field is a plus.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS


1. Possesses excellent communication skills (writing, spelling, listening, and speaking).
2. Cooperates as a team member.
3. Possesses problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
4. Ability to work without close supervision.
5. Utilizes good management techniques.
6. Follows through to completion of assigned tasks.
7. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
8. Valid driver’s license and ability to provide own transportation.
9. Demonstrates knowledge and good judgment in matters of college policy and procedures.
