Spunky Pom Pom Hat Pattern

By Lisa Jelle/Kaleidoscope Art&Gifts

Skill Level: Beginner

Gauge: 7 blo scs x 8 rows= 2” swatch

Supplies:
Hook: K
Yarn: Worsted
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Sizing: Use standard hat/head measurement charts. I use this one:

http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/size-chart.html#hat

Abbreviations and stitches required:

- ch- chain.
- blo sc- ‘back loop only’ single crochet
- sl st- insert slip stitch
- st(s)- stitch(es)

otes: You can choose to add color changes wherever you want. I recommend changing them off after at
LEAST 3 rows to take into account for the ribbed ‘blo’ look.
PATTER
*Band:
• ch8, sc across (7scs), ch1 & turn
• Row 1: blo scs across (7), ch1 & turn
• repeat Row 1 until the band measures 2”-3” LESS than the head
circumference measurement
• sl st short ends together, do NOT fasten off
*Hat:
• Round 1: ch1, sc around (1 sc in the end of each row from the band),
join with sl st, ch1 & turn
• Round 2: ch1, blo sc around, join with sl st, ch1 & turn
• Repeat Round 2 till whole piece measures the 1”-3” LESS than the
height recommended for your hat size (1” less will make pom poms
‘stand up’ more while 2”-3” less will make them slightly
floppy/slouchy), fasten off
• (make sure seam is in the back), sl st top closed, fasten off and weave
in ends
*Pom poms:
• Make two pom poms (whatever size you choose), one for each corner,
and attach securely. (pom pom tutorial-3 sizes here:
http://www.craftinterrupted.com/2012/10/yarn-pom-garland-
tutorial.html)

*Weave in all ends.
