Bradley Jones is the author, Pew Research Center, was created in Washington D.

C,
article posted January 31st 2019. The thesis is “The american public’s views of the impact
immigrants have on the country remain largely positive - and deeply partisan”. During this
article Jones explains how not very much has changed in the last few years however in the time
between now and 1994 americans views on immigration has changed. A decade ago people were
against immigration because they believed that immigrants took away homes, jobs, and health
care. Even now Generation X would still vote against it while millennials and Generation Z
would not. I believe Jones’ reason to write this article is to inform people how views on this
topic has changed. . . Maybe not as recently has a few years, however during the last few
decades. Since this article is semi recent I believe that the information it provides is very
beneficial because all throughout the article there are percentages and dates and with the time of
the article they make those numbers more credible. The author Bradley Jones is credible because
the article is recent, he does not use personal pronouns. Not to mention that you can easily find
all of the information on the page when creating a citation. The author also provides evidence for
his information that he provides backing up what he is trying to say. In my research paper I will
use this source to help explain just how much views have changed over the decades. The answers
I am looking for in this source is how much peoples views has changed and how the people who
grew up in a different time feel about it now after all these years.
Newspapers.com and ancestry.com, New York 2019. This source does not provide an
author because as it states at the bottom of the page, the name of the authors have been edited out
due to their privacy agreement with the authors of the articles. The thesis statement is how the
first immigrants from Ellis Island have affected us. During this article it talks about how many
people just flooded in to Ellis island waiting to come into America, almost 7,000. Also how
those people are now on the search for jobs and a place they can call home. With people of all
ages from almost every place on earth. This is a newspaper article so the purpose of the article
was to inform people about what was going on around them. This specific article does not have a
place attached to it. However assuming it is a local newspaper, the place it was written was most
likely new york. When you look into newspapers you always need to take everything it says with
a grain a salt. Meaning that it may or may not be biased or trustworthy because you do not know
what the politics were like back then or the type of company that controlled the paper. So the
information that is said that is more attached to certain ideas may or may not be reliable. The
overall source is credible but certain pieces of information may or may not be. It is hard to tell
because we were not there we do not know what was happening at that given time. With this
source I do not have questions attached because this source is more of one that will provide the
feeling of the paper. Meaning what people who immigrated were feeling and what the natives
were.
Maurice Belanger, National Immigration Forum, April 17, 2019. The thesis of the article
is how during the last six months and the government shutdown, with the funding on the border
for a wall it is hard to tell if people's idea of immigration is going to change. This article has a lot
of information on so many different aspects of immigration. It mentions how people now believe
immigration will improve American society rather that hurt it. Also about immigrants hardwork
and talent and that they bring over so many more ideas then we might have had ourselves.
Because they also bring so many new ways of thinking and looking at challenges based on their
background. Also a polling that was done in 2016 has now jumped more than 30 percent today.
Which is a record high on views of immigration. This source is going to provide a lot of answers
to my question about how even in the last years we are growing as a country. We are not stuck in
the past, and how immigration benefits society and how its making America more diverse and
more unique. This source is credible because it provides evidence to back up the statistics it
provides and how all of the information is very easy to find. Also when creating a citation all the
information is right there with easy access which makes it very easy to check its information.
Pew research center, Washington D.C., June 28, 2018. The thesis is about how the idea of
illegal immigration and fallen, which should not necessairly be true. During this article it shares
how 32 percent of people believe that legal immigration should rise while 24 percent of people
believe legal immigration should decrease. Also how 69 percent of people are sympathetic to
illegal immigration while a decade ago it was only 27 percent. Not to mention the people that
believe people who come over illegally should not be granted citizenship because they feel like it
is rewarding those people for doing the wrong thing. The article also provides a shocking fact
that fewer than half of people in America actually know that most of the immigration population
is here legally. The person who wrote this article is very credible because like the others with
every statistic the evidence is right behind it. However the article is a little outdated with being a
little over a year old. Except is does provide citations that are easily located at the bottom of the
page. This source will answer the question, how much people actually know about immigration
that is not fake news.
Carlos, Democrats, Washington D.C., 2018. This source is a video telling about Carlos’
story, so as a result of that there is not really a thesis because he is not trying to get a point
across. Carlos is from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and he has only lived in the states
for sixteen years. He has lived in Pennsylvania for these last years and he works a normal job
nine to five like everyone else. The entire video/source is about how Carlos is living a normal
life. And it does not matter that he is an immigrant he can still do what everyone else does just as
well. He also went to college and got two different degrees because he wanted to help his
community he did not just want to get a job and waste the college degrees. This source is
credible because well one it is an interview so the whole source is an interview and what
happened to him personally. The interview has the purpose of informing people about his
experiences compared to others and how it has not been so bad. The question this source answers
is how does an immigrant feel about coming from another country and living here, and the
impact they have on society.
Brooke Binkowski, Smithsonian Second Opinion. In this source it explains how
immigration has changed and evolved America culturally. Not to mention that southern United
States used to be Mexican territory before it was ever U.S territory. Also how we have used the
fact of someone being an immigrant to deport them, even if they were legal. We can not just use
a way how someone else is different we also can not just racially identify people and assume the
worst or treat them badly. Immigrants have had such an impact on society both good and bad,
but mostly good. There are ways how immigration has hurt us like drug trafficking and sex
trafficking but that is only a few when there are so many ways that it has helped us instead. This
author's purpose when writing this was to inform all of the viewpoints on the topic both bad and
good. This is a credible source because the citations are easily found, which is great because it is
easy to check the facts. However this source may not be the most recent as it does not give a date
that it was written. But it does not use personal pronouns and you can check the facts. Which
makes answering the question, how immigration may hurt us, easy to answer because it gives
both ways good and bad.
Congress, C-Span.org, Washington D.C, April 9 2019. This source is a video of a
congress hearing on migration at the southern border. Customs enforcement and the department
of U.S Border Patrol and Immigration testified on migration issues at the Mexico border before
the Senate Homeland Security Committee. Senator Gary Peters talks about how drugs are
coming over the border along with illegal immigrants and the border needs to be secured better.
The United States and Mexico need to share information on similar investigations of criminal
organizations in order to better take down drug trafficking and human trafficking. The United
States also needs to keep better records on migrant children that have been separated or are
unaccompanied by a parent or parents as many children were not recorded and the data is lost
meaning that they don’t have accurate data on a major issue that is occurring right now. This
source is very informative because there are many different viewpoints expressed of senator and
officials at the border that are affected. This source is credible as it is an official hearing on
migration and trafficking issues at the border. The question this would answer is what is the
viewpoint of ice officials and senators on issues at the Mexico border.
