▪ Solve for the quotient accurately.
▪ Keep the surroundings clean and beautiful.

II. Subject Matter:

Dividing 3- to 4 – Digit Numbers by 1 Digit Numbers With Remainder

Prerequisite Concepts and Skills :

 Mastery of the multiplication and subtraction basic facts

Value Focus : Beautification of surroundings

Materials: Drill cards , window cards
References : ( M4NS – If – 54.3 ) Math 4 T.G. pp. 62 - 65 , LM pp. 49 - 52

III.Instructional Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill – Divide as fast you can.
30÷ 6 9÷3 49 ÷ 7 8÷4 10 ÷ 5

2. Review :
Give the quotient :

4 484 2 126 5 105 6 696 3 966

3. Motivation
Do you love flowers? What is your favorite flower?
If you have flowering plants at home, what can it do to your surroundings?
What are other ways of making your surroundings clean and beautiful?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation:
a. Presenting a situation:
Myra ordered 521 roses for her flower shop. Her helpers made bouquets for her 8 roses.
How many bouquet of roses were made for sale?
1. Who ordered roses for her flower shop?
2. How many roses did Myra order?
3. How many bouquets of roses her helpers made?
4. What does the problem ask for?
5. How will you solve the problem?
65 R. 1
Divide: 8 521

What do you notice to the answer/ quotient?

Numbers that cannot be divided exactly by other numbers have remainders.
The remainder is the number left after dividing. It is less than the divisor.

b. Give more examples.

2. Performing the Activities
Work in pairs:
Find the quotient of the following:

5 1557 3 6949 6 338 2 1257 5 309 8 6489 9 506 7 4559

.
3. Processing the Activities
 Checking their works. ( Provide immediate feedback/remedial measures to those incorrect answers )
 How did you get the quotient of a 3 – digit number divided by 1 – digit number with remainder?

4. Reinforcing the Concept and Skill

 Answer Explore and Discover on p. 50 of LM Math Grade 4
 Work on items 6 to10 under Get Moving and items 1,2,6,7.8, 9,10,12, 13 under Keep Moving p.51 of LM Math
Grade 4

5. Summarizing the Lesson

 How do you divide 3 – 4 digit numbers by I –digit number without remainder?
To divide 3 – 4 digit numbers by 1 – digit number without remainder, the following are the steps:
▪ Divide the first partial dividend by the divisor
▪ Write the quotient above the thousands or hundreds place
▪ Multiply the quotient by the divisor.
▪ Write the product under the thousands or hundreds place and then subtract
▪ Bring down the next digit in the dividend.
▪ Divide the next partial dividend by the divisor
▪ Write the product under the hundreds or tens and then subtract.
▪ Continue the process until the last partial dividend.
▪ Write the remainder if any , in the quotient.

6. Applying to New and Other Situations

Read and solve.
1. Dory has 774 jackstones. She keeps them equally in 5 cans. How many jackstones are there in each can?
2. If 122 students are to be divided into 7 groups, how many students will there be in each group?

C. Assessment
