pieces of paper under your chair and
arrange it properly.
 Checking of Attendance
- Mr./Ms. Secretary, kindly check the
attendance, please. - (the secretary will do as told)
B. Presentation of the lesson
 Review

- Okay class, so before we start our

new topic for today, let’s have a
recap on what we have discussed last - (students will raise their hands)
meeting. Does anyone here who can
recall our last topic?

- Yes, (name of the student)… - (the student will stand and state
his/her answer)
- Ma’am, the topic that we’ve
discussed last time is all about
finding the distance between two
points in a Cartesian Coordinate
- That’s very good, (name of the System.
student). You have a good memory.

- So as a refresher, let’s Find the

Distance. Who wants to plot the
given points and find the distance
between those two points using the
distance formula or Pythagorean
Theorem?
- Plot the points:(0,0) and (7,6)

- (students will raise their hands)

- (one student will stand and he/she
- Yes, (student’s name). will plot the points on the Cartesian
Plane)
- (the student will do as told)
- So now, find the distance.
- (after a minute) Ma’am, the answer
is √85 𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑠.
- Very good! The answer is
√85 𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑠. It seems that you have
learned a lot from our last topic. Do
you have any question, or
clarification so far before we
proceed? - None, Ma’am

 Motivation
- So, If none, then let’s proceed to our
next topic, but before that, let’s have
some mind games. Do you want to
- Yes, Ma’am!
play a game?

- That’s good, first, I have here a riddle.

- (the teacher will present the riddle)

- Kindly read, everyone!

- (students will do as told)

- So, do you understand the riddle? - Ma’am! Ma’am! (students will

What do you think is the answer? raise their hands)

- Yes, (name of the student)! What is the - (the student will stand and answer
answer? the riddle)
- Ma’am, it is CIRCLE.
- Very good! You’re right. Because the - (the students will answer in
dinner plates…and rings, are all chorus)
formed in what shape, class? - CIRCLE!

- Obviously! It is so easy, am I right?

- Yes, Ma’am!
- So, now, let’s proceed to another mind
game. - (the students will look carefully at
the problem)

- What do you think is the answer for - (the students are thinking
2581? I will give you some time again. carefully)

- Yes, (student’s name).

- Why? - (a student will raise his/her hand)

- (the student will stand)

- Excellent! You’re right! Give him/her
- The answer is 2!
a round of applause!
- Because, there are two circles that
can be found on number “2581”.
 Lesson Proper
The number “8” has two circles,
- So, I guess you already have a clue
Ma’am.
about our topic for today.
- Thank you, Ma’am.
- It is all about “CIRCLE”!

- Using the compass, let’s make a circle

through the points that he/she
(student’s name) plotted recently.

- I need one student to do this. Any

volunteer?
- So, (student’s name), please come here
in front and put a circle on our
Cartesian Plane. The center must be at
(0,0) and the chalk should be placed - Ma’am! (The students will raise
first at the point (7, 6), then make a their hands).
circle.

- Very good!

- So now, as you’ve seen, we have here

(The student will do as told)
a CIRCLE IN THE CARTESIAN
PLANE.

- Don’t you think that we can tell the

identity of this circle?

- It is just by finding its equation! By

finding it, we can identify the circle in - (the students will listen carefully)
the cartesian plane.
- How, Ma’am?
- Now, let’s find the equation of a
circle! First, we will study about the
STANDARD FORM of the equation
of a circle.
- Based on the circle that we’ve put in
the Cartesian Plane, at what point can
we locate the center of this circle?

- Yes, (student’s name)

- Good job! How about the radius?

- Ma’am! (The students will raise
What is the measure of our radius?
their hands)
Anyone?

- Yes, you’re raising your hand, - The center is at the origin (0,0),

(student’s name)… Ma’am.

- (The students will raise their

hands)
- Oh! That’s right. The radius measures
√85 . Then, what have you observed? - Ma’am, the radius measures √85
units

- That is a very good observation! Give

him/her a round of applause. - the circle measures the same as the
distance that we got after using the
- So, class, here it is: distance formula. So the “d” will
represent the length of the
- Let us find more about the equation of
“radius”…
a circle… in standard form.

- (the students will do what is told

by the teacher)
- So, class, did you see that?
- That is our equation of our circle ~ a
standard equation for circle which has
a center at the origin and radius.
- So…

- Ahh!

- Eyes on the board, please. I will

answer the first example, then the
remaining examples are for you, class.
So, let’s find the equation of the circle
with center at (0,0) and has a radius of
3.
- What would be the equation of this
circle?

- (the students will listen carefully)

- So, now, it’s your time to shine, Class!
- Ahhh…
- What is the equation of the circle
wherein its center is at the origin, and
it has a radius of 2?
- Anyone?
- Okay, please answer it on the board,
(student’s name)…
- Very good! That is the equation we’re - (the students will raise their hands)
looking for! - (the student will do as told)

- So, now, I need another student who

will try to find the equation of this
circle… with center at (0, 0) and has a
radius of 1.2.

- Kindly answer it, please, (Student’s

- (the students will raise their hands)
name)…

- Oh! Good job! You got the correct

- (the student will do as told)
answer!

- So far, do you have any questions and

clarifications about our topic?
- Are you sure?
- Okay, now let’s hone more your
skills… - None, Ma’am
- Yes, Ma’am!
2. Application
Kindly get a ¼ sheet of paper. You see
that there are four graphs of circle in a
Cartesian Plane. The measurement is
only one unit in our gridlines. I want
you to find the standard form of
equation of these circles by identifying
first their radius.
*Find the radius, and determine the
equation of the following circles with the
center at the origin (in standard form):

1 2

3 4

- I will call four students to answer these

on the board… (student 1, 2, 3, 4)

- (the students will raise their hands)

Answers:
1. radius: 0.05 unit / SE: 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = 𝟎. 𝟐𝟓
2. radius: 1 unit /SE: 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = 𝟏
3. radius: 2 units/ SE: 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = 𝟒
- Very good! Thank you. So, is it easy,
4. radius: 3 units/ SE: 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = 𝟗
am I right?

3. Generalization
- Yes, Ma’am!

- Class, can anyone summarize our

lesson? What have you learned?
- Yes, (student’s name)…

- Ma’am, the topic that we’ve

discussed today is all about the circle
in the Cartesian Plane. That circle can
be identified just by knowing its
equation based on its radius and
center. The standard form of the
circle was elaborated today and I’ve
found out that when the circle has a
center at the origin, the equation (in
- It is so nice to hear that! Very good!
standard form) will be 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = 𝒓𝟐 .
- Let’s give him/her a round of
applause…
- So class, the center of the circles that
we have discussed right now are at the
- (the students will do as told)
origin, so we just simply substitute the
value of radius… and voila! …We can
already have our equation of a circle in
standard form…
- Is it all clear, class?
- This equation of a circle can be applied
in real world…you will see this being
applied to some fields/areas like the radar
- Yes, Ma’am!
system, air traffic controlling system,
geology (seismology)…etc.

- So, I think it’s time for a quiz! - Aaahh…

- Let’s have a quiz.

- Okay, Ma’am…

IV. Evaluation
In 1 whole sheet of paper…
A. Find the standard equation of the ff.
1. Center (0, 0); r = 7
2. C (0, 0); r = 13
3. Center at the origin; radius is 14 units
4. C (0, 0); r = 16
5. Center at the origin; r = 9
6. Center at the origin; radius is ¼ unit
7. C (0, 0); diameter = 22
8. C (0, 0); d= 16
9. Center at the origin; diameter is 14 units

B. Answer the ff.:

10. What is the center of this circle: 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = 𝟑𝟔?
11. What is r, if 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = 𝟏𝟔𝟗?
𝟏
12. What is the radius if 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = 𝟖𝟏 ?
13. What is the equation of the circle in standard form: Center (0, 0); radius =
0.5 ?
14. What is the radius if 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = (𝟏𝟏. 𝟏)𝟐 ?
𝟐
15. Find the radius: 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = (√𝟖𝟓)

- Are you , class? - Yes, Ma’am.

- Please pass your paper forward.
- Copy your assignment. - Okay, Ma’am.

V. Assignment

Study: How can we find the equation of a circle (standard form) if the center is not
located at the origin?

- Yes, Ma’am. - Are you done, class?

- Goodbye, Ma’am. - Goodbye, class.
