In the name of God, Amen, I John Cooper of the County of Campbell and the state

of Tennessee, being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be
Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in
manner and form following (that is to say)

First, I will that as soon as may be after my decease, disposition be made of my


goods and chattel or of part of my land, and all the debts then remaining due to be paid to
my creditors.

Second, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Hester Sage Cooper, all my
personal estate, goods and chattels, land and tenements, to enable her to raise my children
she bore me in good credit and to educate them as she may find opportunity, that is all the
children that are now unmarried and living at home, and further I will that my said wife
Hester Sage Cooper to use and manage the property, ink smeared unreadable section, her
own right and property during her ink smeared unreadable section, life or widowhood,
and as her children marries (or) become of age give them aid as she may find herself able
– but should my wife hereafter marry another man, then and in that case I will that all the
remaining goods and chattels, lands and tenements be equally divided between my
children, and my wife Hester Sage Cooper to have a child’s part as an equal heir with the
children she bore me, or for the property and lands to be sold and each of the children –
Mahala Jackson, Joseph Cooper, David Cooper, Silvestor Cooper, Malinda Cooper,
William Cooper, Fountain Cooper, Thomas cooper, Lindsay Cooper, Matthew Cooper,
Patience Cooper, and their mother to have and equal share of the product arising from the
sale of said lands and tenements, goods and chattels, --and lastly I hereby appoint Isaac
Gross my sole Executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former
wills by me made.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty-seventh day of
April, one thousand eight hundred and forty-five.

County Court August Term 1854

The last Will and Testament by John Cooper, late of this County, was this day presented
here in open court for probate and thereupon came Thomas Dabney and subscribing
witness thereto who being first sworn depose and say that he heard the said John Cooper
acknowledge the foregoing instrument to be his last Will and Testament and at the time of
making said acknowledgement he was of sound mind an disposing memory to the best of
his knowledge and belief.
