REFLECTION ON CLASSROOM OBSERVATION

Observing a classroom before teaching was a great help for me as a student

teacher because through observing I was able to know what techniques I will be using

when I was teaching my students I observed their learning styles.

There were students that were really gifted that they can easily grasp the

information and lesson I taught but there were students who needed my attention in order

to grasp and understand the discussions.

In my first day of observation, it was Monday, January 28, 2019 at exactly 8:40 in

the morning, Mrs. Mendoza introduced me to Grade 11-ABM students that I will be their

student teacher and after that she told me that I should observed her class first. She

discussed about claim of facts and claim of opinions.

I observed that there were integrations of different subject, it was not just about

English subject, but there were combinations of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics,

History and the thing that caught my attention was when she included a bible verses in

her lesson and it amazed me as a student teacher because she was not just imparting them

the knowledge she have but she also served as spiritual guide for her students.

In doing a lesson plan, I learned that it should not be a simple lesson plan as it is

but a lesson plan that will help the students bring out their inner abilities and showcase

their talents.

Moreover, as a student teacher I should also act as a facilitator and not the source

of their knowledge and should let them discover things by their own.
SELF-ASSESSMENT ON READINESS IN ACTUAL TEACHING

My cooperating teacher, Mrs. Charlene Mendoza briefed me on the things I

should know before I handle and discuss to different sections. She told me that I would

be teaching with the guide of the new curriculum which is K to 12, and I would be

teaching Reading and Writing course. She also told me that this subject seemed boring

but she would help me to make this subject an exciting one.

As I begin teaching, I should be equipped and ready because I need to consider

the gaps when it comes to our ages, she told me that I should have an authority when

teaching and commanding them.

I had 50 minutes in every lesson I would be teaching. I should maximize my time

just to finish the lesson, but if we did not have enough time we could continue it for

tomorrow. But my goal was to finish it within 50 minutes and it should be understood by

my students.

I discussed about movie review. I made sure that my visual aids were good

enough to catch the attention of my students and the writings on it should be well written.

I gave them handouts for them to have a copy so they would be able to review lessons in

their homes.

I made sure that they have group activities and individual activity. To evaluate

them if they learned something from our discussion I always give them a 10-item short

quiz and I didn’t forget to do the index of mastery by asking who got a perfect score or a

lower score because it served as my guide if I could proceed to our next topic. I ended the

class by giving them assignments as an introduction to our new lesson.

COMMON CLASSROOM PROBLEMS

It is stated in the bible in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, “but he said to me, “My grace is

sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all

the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is

why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecution, in

difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong”

Problems given to us were challenges that made us stronger. Regardless of the

challenge, facing up to it is the key. Doing so will made you feel like you can take care of

yourself.

Since I was a kid I always dreamt to be teacher, a teacher that would mold people

and produce professionals. I know teaching professions comes with big responsibilities, I

saw how my relatives sacrifices for that because I came from a family of teachers. I

witnessed how they were really dedicated to their profession really inspired.

I was really excited when it was our Practice Teaching because finally after seven

semesters that we spent in our campus, I believe that we were now ready to face the real

field that we only imagined inside the classroom.

Teaching was really fun but sometimes it felt that I wanted to leave the classroom

because there were students I could not control and there were students who were not

giving respect to me but despite of that I should show them that I have shown authority.

As I begin to be practice teachers there were problems that I encountered.

FINAL DEMONSTRATION TEACHING

Teachers had a very significant educational role. They dispense knowledge

teaching the student some essentials concept that they might use as they grow building

and aiming their dreams.

All aspiring teachers would not become successful without Final Demonstration

teaching, it is the time he/she will apply what he/she learned. It was the judgment day for

all of the fourth year education students.

Being a student teacher was not an easy task to do but I believe that if teaching is

your passion you would love what you were doing.

The day that every student teacher awaited was the day of the Final

Demonstration. I felt mixed emotion in that day. I was excited yet worried if I would

succeed in that demonstration teaching.

Before my final demonstrations came, I prepared and planned what would be my

topic for my final demo ahead of time, because based on what I observed from practice

teachers from other school they were not prepared and they were finalizing their lesson

plans one day before their final demo. I learned that I must be prepared although I had

two weeks left before my final demo.

My cooperating teacher told me that since I was handling senior high school I

should choose my topic from their curriculum guide and so I did. The first topic that I

chose and made a draft for my lesson plan was Claim of facts and Claims of opinion, but

my cooperating teacher disagree with it because she observed that this topic seemed easy

and it would not practice a higher order thinking skills, by what she said I choose what
OVER-ALL REFELCTION AND SELF APPRAISAL

Working in the classroom showed me the value of organization, and, keeping the

students’ papers organized. Sometimes I felt it was difficult to keep the number of papers

and completed assignments in an easily accessible way

This led me to make a box wherein I was putting the graded papers of my students

before they were handed out. I envision designating one day per week in which papers

were passed back at the beginning of class.

I gave my students different tasks to do. They took in charge of the different

activities and this task was one way of promoting classroom ownership among the class. I

was assigning leaders when we were having a group activity, in that way there were

leaders who would manage every group to make it organize.

Teachers are producers of engineers, doctors, chefs and many more, without

teachers we didn’t had professionals like them. Teachers should be a good follower.

Teachers should be a good example to their students. Teaching was not an easy

job. As teacher I should be dedicated to the field I have chosen. Teaching is my passion.

During the first meeting of our class, I was not worried because they were not

noisy instead they were listening and paying attention to me. But as time flies, I was able

to know and observed their attitudes and behav1iors.

I have observed that there were students who were really gifted. They were able

to get a perfect score in the examinations I gave to them. They were competitive in a bad

way because they wanted their classmates to have a deduction and it was not good.
