What is Portuguese?
Portuguese is a Romance world language spoken by about 200 million
people in Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, and other regions.
The Portuguese spoken in Brazil differs strongly from the one spoken in
the other countries, particularly with respect to spelling and pronunciation.
These differences are covered in the course.
Which variety of Portuguese is taught at LINGUAPOLIS?
The course focuses on standard Portuguese, as it can also be used in Brazil
and the other regions where Portuguese is spoken.

course MATERIAL
The course material is included in the course fee.
We use teaching materials developed by LINGUAPOLIS combined with
textbooks.
Level 1 and level 2 make use of:
1. Português XXI, 1, Ana Tavares, Livro do Aluno, LIDEL
2. Português XXI, 2, Ana Tavares, Caderno de exercicios, LIDEL
The manual includes an audio-CD.
Português XXI is a monolingual, communicative textbook that enables the
learner to acquire the language actively. The method was developed for
adult learners who want to learn Portuguese fast and in a structured and
efficient way.
LINGUAPOLIS - PORTUGUESE 2
The textbook contains 12 sections. Each section has been conceived in such
a way that the learner acquires a number of communicative competencies.
Knowledge of grammatical rules, useful words and special attention to
correct pronunciation are the building blocks of successful communication.
Each section concludes with an overview of the subject matter dealt with.
The workbook can be used inside and outside the classroom.
At the end of level 1 students can have short conversations. They are self-
reliant and can ask for information, order food/drinks, go shopping, etc.
Some of the topics that will be dealt with are ‘family’, ‘countries and
languages’, ‘’around the house’, ‘the city’, ‘clothes, etc.
In level 2 this basis is extended. Students can talk for about 10 minutes
about a subject of their choice. Every lesson one student presents a current
affairs topic, which will be discussed in class afterwards.
