Mathematics 7

Date: January 30, 2018

Time Frame: 10:45-11:45 (1 hour)

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts, uses and importance of
Statistics, data collection/gathering and the different forms of data presentation, measures of central
tendency, measures of variability, and probability.

Performance Standard: The learner is able to collect and organize data systematically and compute
accurately measures of central tendency and variability and apply these appropriately in data analysis
and interpretation in different fields

Learning Competency: The learner calculates the measures of central tendency of ungrouped and
grouped data. (M7SP-IVf-g-1)

I. Objectives
 Recall the steps in calculating the mean.
 Solve for the mean of grouped data.
 Apply the importance of the mean in real life situations.
II. Subject Matter:
Topic: Mean of Grouped Data

Materials: Laptop, projector, book, manila paper, marker
III. Procedure
A. Preparation
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance
 Review
-Before we formally start our lesson this morning, let us have a review first. Who
can recall what we have discussed yesterday?
-Do you have any clarification in computing the mean of ungrouped data?
 Motivation
-We’ve already done discussing about the calculation of ungrouped data. Since
there is an ungrouped data, do you know that there is also a grouped data?
-Do you know how to calculate the mean of grouped data?
B. Presentation
- Discuss the difference between computing the mean of ungrouped data and grouped data.
- Discuss the symbols and the formula used in computing the mean.
𝚺𝒇𝒙𝒎
̃=
Formula in computing the mean of grouped data, 𝒙 𝒏
where;
x- the class interval
𝚺𝒇𝒙𝒎 -the sum of the product of the frequency and the class mark or class midpoint.
𝒙𝒎 - midpoint
−to get the midpoint of the class interval by adding the lower limit and the upper limit and
divide the sum by 2.
𝒏- The sum of the frequencies or the size of the sample
- Discuss the steps in computing the mean of grouped data.
Step 1: determine the midpoint (also called a class mark) of each interval, or class
– get the midpoint of the class interval by adding the lower limit and the upper limit and divide
the sum by 2.
Step 2: Multiply each midpoint by the frequency for the class.
Step 3: Add the results from Step 2 and divide the sum by the total number of values will be
the value of the mean.
- Show an example of grouped data.

25-29 6
30-34 9
35-39 10
40-44 12

- Calculate the mean of the given data by following the steps.

C. Practice
- Call a student to recall the steps in computing the mean.
- Proceed to a group activity.
- Directions: Calculate the mean of the given data assigned to your group.
Group 1
The ages of students in a small primary school were recorded in the table below.

Ages Frequency
5-6 20
7-8 10
9-10 11

Group 2
The number of days that students were missing from school due to sickness in one year was recorded.

Group 3
The table shows the distribution of scores of 23 students on a Mathematics test.
Group 4

The ages of the people at a youth camp are summarized in the table below.

Age (years) 6–8 9 – 11 12 – 14

Frequency 8 22 29

- Let the students present their work in front.

- Ask the student to cite an example where they can apply the mean in real life situation.
Values Integration

- Since the topic is about the Mean of Grouped data as one of the measures of central tendencies,
associate the word central to center. A center of value of the data.
- Ask the students who is the center of their lives.
- Let the students know that God must be the center of our lives because He is the source of
everything we need in this world and with Him everything is possible.
IV. ASESSMENT
