Note 2 : The detector.path key parameter defines the IP address of one or several Pixium EZ.
The detector.path key parameter could have two formats:
• detector.path.sn###### : where ###### represents the Serial Number of the
Pixium EZ which can be connected. There is no default value. During the
connection, Pixrad verifies that #### matches with the real serial number of the
Pixium EZ which has to be connected.
• detector.path.# : where # is the index in a list of Pixium EZ detectors which can
be connected (example: detector.path.0 = 192.168.1.3).
Note 3 : Allowed detector IP addresses: 192.168.ww.xx or 10.0.yy.zz and xx must be lower than
100 while using the IP addresses 192.168.ww.xx
Note 4 : This parameter allows to configure the maximum allowed power for a given wifi channel.
N represents a valid and allowed channel index. Only channels present in the section
[hardware.wifi] will be usable by the corresponding Pixium EZ.
The default parameters and associated settings are as follows:

Although Pixrad accepts a maximum allowed power up to 255, the Wifi module of the Pixium EZ
detectors is limited to 50mW. In case of a higher value is specified in the Detector####EZini file, the
maximum allowed power will be automatically set to 50 mW
The [hardware.wifi] section must be filled according to the local regulation regarding the allowed
channels and maximum power. Parameters channel.powermax(N) should be added or removed
accordingly.
It is the OEM responsibility to preset this section in order to comply with the local regulation.
Refer to the Pixium EZ General Caution and standard prescriptions (Ref [7]) to know the allowed
channels for the certified countries.
Note 5 : It is possible to add a new operating mode in this section such as:
• application.x = rad
• application.x = positioning
• application.x = rad.autotrigger
Note 6 : In case a second operation mode has been added in the section [modes.operating], it
has to be defined in a new section [modes.application.2.xxx].

Note 12 : In case of insufficient or instable WiFi quality, try to change the WiFi channel or set it to
auto. In case of auto channel, make sure that the AP and Detector + PixRad lists of allowed
channels are set consistently. It has been seen in several cases that setting to auto
improves WiFi stability.
Note 13 : Some access points have a limited WiFi power level as their default configuration. In case
of insufficient WiFi quality, try to increase the WiFi power level parameter.
Note 14 : Try to keep the antennas at least 15cm away from the wall or other objects. WiFi quality
may also depend on access point position and antenna orientations
IMPORTANT: with D-Link DAP-2590 access point (also applies to some other D-Link APs), there is
a parameter to define the period for automatic renewal of the encryption key (called "Group Key
Update Interval"). This parameter must be set to the maximum value allowed otherwise
communication losses may occur. See the following screen copy:

It is recommended to end users, in order to reduce the crossover risk in a wireless mode, to
unambiguously identify each Pixium EZ with colored stickers, numbered stickers or equivalent
means to uniquely identify each detector.
WiFi networking is complex and time-critical: set the priority of the application driving the detectors
via WiFi to the right level. In case of communication loss, try to increase the priority level of the
driving application.
Avoid multiple background processes running on the host PC. In case of communication loss, try to
stop or lower the priority of resource consuming background processes (anti-virus, scheduled
tasks…).
In case an acquired image would not be transmitted because of WiFi link failure, there is a possibility
to recover the image later by calling the PixRad function RecoverLastImage. Make sure the
application tries to recover the image at least three times in case the first call doesn't succeed.
8 OPERATION
After the Pixium EZ has been switched off, turn the latch counter-clockwise and remove the battery.
The Pixium EZ must always be switched off with the button or software command before
removing the battery.
The Pixium EZ will wake up when applying the 12 V DC voltage through the back-up cable interface.
All the information contained in this document remains the sole and exclusive property
If the “wake on shake” function is active, the Pixium EZ will wake up when shaking the detector.
After period of inactivity defined in the Detector####EZ.ini file, the detector can switch off by itself.
The back-up cable is secured by magnets. To avoid any unexpected unplugging of the back-up
cable, it is recommended to not pull or bend the cable with excessive force.
The back-up cable includes a connector with magnets. All persons with pacemakers have to stay

third party without the prior consent of THALES .ELECTRON DEVICES SAS
When it is turned in auto-triggered RAD modes, the Pixium EZ operates as a "slave" during an X-ray
image acquisition cycle. In such case, after receiving the request for an X-ray image acquisition, the
Pixium EZ waits until the X-ray is shot.
It is recommended to use only the Normal sensitivity. The Intermediate sensitivity and the High
sensitivity are provided for extreme low doses and narrow collimation situations. The lowest and low
sensitivities are provided as provision and should not be used.
It is the OEM responsibility to define the body part protocol settings (including selection of auto-
triggered RAD modes sensitivity) and operator instruction for each application in accordance with
the specification.
The system manufacturer should alert the operator by a visual or audio message when detection
has occurred. So in case of a false detection, the operator will be aware.
False detections might happen in case of heavy shocks or vibrations or EMI or pressure on the
detector. In case of false detection, the detector will acquire a non-exposed image. The operator
should then wait till the acquisition is finished before requesting a new image.
The Pixium EZ remains in auto-triggered RAD modes until it is turned off or reseted or until the mode
is disabled by the TED_PixRad_DetectorControl function with the parameter
DC_AUTOTRIGGER_XXX = false.
The parameter DC_AUTOTRIGGER_XXX used to turn off the auto-triggered RAD modes should not
necessarily correspond to the current auto-triggered RAD mode sensitivity.
ex.: DC_AUTOTRIGGER_NORMAL = false will turn off the current auto-triggered RAD mode, even
if the current sensitivity is Intermediate or High.
When the auto-triggered RAD modes are enabled, the acquisitions are only allowed using a
rad.autotrigger operating mode. See the Application Mode and Operating Mode definitions in the
Software Interface Specification (see Ref [4]).

After the TED_PixRad_StartAcquisition function has been called, Pixrad sends the events
EVT_START_ACQUISITION and EVT_READY and then the detector is ready for receiving X-rays.
As soon as X-rays are detected by the Pixium EZ, Pixrad sends the events EVT_XRAY_ON and
EVT_XRAY_OFF to indicate to the application that one integration has been performed.
After the X-rays have been detected, the end of the image acquisition process remains identical to
the standard trigger mode in terms of events sent by Pixrad.
As long as the Pixium EZ is in auto-triggered RAD modes, new X-ray acquisitions can be requested.
After the TED_PixRad_StartAcquisition function has been called, it is possible to cancel the
acquisition in auto-triggered RAD modes using the Pixrad function TED_PixRad_StopAcquisition.
The TED_PixRad_StopAcquisition function should be called after the EVT_READY, while the
detector is waiting for X-rays.
These two reference files are created during the X-ray Calibration process and saved in the
Reference directory.
The Gain Reference takes into account either the response of the detector and the uniformity of the
X-ray flow. Therefore, for a given Detector Mode, it could be necessary to have several Gain
References to cover different X-ray configurations (different SID, grid and no grid, X-ray source
orientation …). See the Gain Calibration section (10.9) for creating additional Gain References.
Only one Defect Map per Detector Mode is requested as it depends only on the detector

Then, while the X-ray window is open, allowing the X-ray shot (in RAD modes) or when the X-ray is shot
(in RAD auto-triggered modes), the indicator turns red:

The XRAY SHOT indicator is synchronized with the events of Pixrad and with the X-Ray enable signal
as follows:
Calibration.prepare.delay is an adjustable parameter of the Pixrad.ini file. It allows the X-ray source to
be prepared before shooting during the X-Ray enable window. In auto-triggered modes, the delay
between PREP_XRAY_SHOT and XRAY_ON is variable depending when the X-ray is shot.
After an X-ray calibration has been performed, it is possible to create additional gain references
using the Gain calibration. It is only possible if a defect map is loaded.
The new Gain References will be identified by a new ID number.
A rad mode and a rad.autotrigger mode using the same detector mode can use the same Gain
reference and the same Defect Map (dark references cannot be shared between rad mode and a
rad.autotrigger). In order to generate a common Gain reference and Defect Map for both rad mode
and a rad.autotrigger, the parameter gain_defectmap.shared.trigger with value “yes” should be
added in the section [configuration.options.references] of the Detector####EZ.ini file.

third party without the prior consent of THALES .ELECTRON DEVICES SAS
Where S means that the reference files are shared between rad mode and a rad.autotrigger mode
using the same detector mode
While using reference sharing can help to save some calibration time, in order to get the optimal
image quality the system should be calibrated in the very same mode (rad or rad.Autotrigger) as the
targeted system clinical usage.
It is possible to share the Gain and Defect Map references between compatible rad.single and
rad.dual modes (i.e. with the same xray window). This option can be specified through the section
[configuration.options.references] and the key gain_defectmap.shared.xraywindow.
In such case, the names of the reference files have the form:
• Gain Reference : sernum_GainLinRef_DetMode1xY_W.fxd
• Defect Map : sernum_DefectMapRef_DetMode1xY_Z.fxd
Where 1x means that the reference files are shared between the rad dual mode Y and the rad single
mode 1Y.
The load button allows loading the Gain and Defect Map reference files for a given
application mode. These files are used to correct the final image.

The Pixium EZ remains in Image Storage mode until it is turned off or reseted or until the mode is
disabled by the TED_PixRad_DetectorControl function with the parameter DC_IMAGE_STORAGE
= false.
In some cases, it could be necessary to flag the images with a unique identifier during storage in
order to help further image management. The Pixium Portable EZ allows setting a data which will be
stored in the header of the acquired images. This data is called metadata in the Pixium Portable EZ
documentation.
The Pixrad function TED_PixRad_SetImageMetadata allows setting a metadata at the detector
level. This function is described in the Software Interface Specification (see Ref [4]).
The preset metadata will be stored in the header of the next acquired image.
Three functions of the Pixrad API allow managing the image stored into the detector:
• Getting the Stored Image List
The Pixrad function TED_PixRad_GetStoredImageList allows getting a list of stored images in the
detector along with some additional image information. This function is described in the Software
Interface Specification (see Ref [4]).
• Reading a Stored Image
The Pixrad function TED_PixRad_GetStoredImage allows getting an image stored into the detector.
It is possible to get the preview image alone or along with the full image. This function is described in
the Software Interface Specification (see Ref [4]).
• Deleting a Stored Image
The Pixrad function TED_PixRad_ RemoveStoredImage allows deleting an image stored into the
detector. This function is described in the Software Interface Specification (see Ref [4]).
The non-volatile memory of the Pixium EZ allows the system to store files into the detector. From
Pixrad point of view, this detector memory space is called remote user storage space or remote
memory.
These functions are described in the Software Interface Specification (see Ref [4]).
All the function mentioned above belongs to a separate Pixrad API and should be called from a
remote storage session.
As long as the remote storage session remains opened, the standard Pixrad functions can not be
called.
The IR management is available from the Pixrad-demo tool , through the Module tab.
The present document neither describes the installation nor the setting of the IR transceiver driver.
Note 15 : When using several IR modules connected to Pixrad, only one must be seen by the
detector at one time.
After the IR modules have been installed and connected, the parameter module.serial.port in the
[hardware] section of the ModuleEZ_IR_x.ini files should be preset according to the com port
affected to the IR module (ex. : com5).
When the polling is enabled, Pixrad scans periodically the IR modules and send an event each time
the status (present / not present) of one IR module has changed.
The Pixrad functions ModuleGetInfo allows getting information from the detector through an IR
module. The available information is:
• Detector serial number
• SSID
• Detector IP address
• Host IP address
The Pixrad functions ModuleSetIpConfig allows setting new IP addresses (detector IP address and
host IP address) into a detector through an IR module.
Refer to the Pixium Portable EZ Technical Specifications (see Ref [1] and Ref [2]) for the allowed IP
addresses.
Valid IP addresses should be entered into the text box below before pushing the Set button.
The host IP address should be entered in CIDR notation (see Note 16)
Note 16 : CIDR notation is constructed from the IP address and the routing prefix size, the latter
being equivalent to the number of leading 1 bits in the routing prefix mask. The IP address
is expressed according to the standards of IPv4 and is followed by a slash (/) character,
and the prefix size expressed as a decimal number (e.g., 192.168.1.5/24 is equivalent to
192.168. 1.5 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0).
The Pixrad functions ModuleSwitchSSID allows setting new SSID and password into a detector
through an IR module.
Valid SSID and password should be entered into the text box below before pushing the Set button.

Pixrad allows setting an ID into the Pixium EZ detector through the IR modules. This feature, which
uses the Pixrad function ModuleSetIrId, is available thanks to the Set button below.
The IR ID is an integer stored in a volatile memory into the detector.
The Pixrad function ModuleGetIrId, which allows reading the current IR ID of the Pixium EZ
detector, is available thanks to the Get button below.

12.1 Maintenance
There are no parts that need to be replaced due to limited lifetime, except the battery.
The Pixium EZ doesn't need any maintenance except the periodical calibration requested for image
quality.
The image quality must be verified after each calibration in order to verify that the detector still
complies with the technical specification. A Pixrad function allows computing the ECV.
The dark calibration consists on acquiring an offset reference used by Pixrad to correct the preview
image or the RAD single mode image.

During the calibration process, the Pixrad library automatically generates a defect map consisting to
a 8-bit black image where the defective pixels are affected by a non-null grey level. This automatic
defect map is called SerNum_DefectMapRef_DetModeX_Y.fxd where :
• SerNum is the serial number of the detector
• X is the detector mode
• Y is the IDentification number of the defect mode for this mode
See also section 10.10 regarding the name of reference files.
The manual defect map, if it exists, is not modified by Pixrad during the calibration process.
The final defect map used by Pixrad for the defective pixel correction is a merge of the automatic
defect map and the manual defect map (if it exists).
A manual defect map is attached to a detector mode. If the application uses more than one detector
mode, it could be necessary to create one manual defect map for each detector mode.
