Learning Outcome 1B: Delivery

Artifact Description and Rationale

Artifact Description

For Learning Outcome 1B: Delivery, I thought it would be best to pull my final

project from C&T 740: Foundations of Reading: Process, Theory, and Instruction.

According to the final project requirements in the C&T 740 course, my final project

involved choosing an award-winning multicultural book appropriate for an adolescent

(approximately grades 4 through 10). I then developed a researched instructional plan

for teaching literacy principles with this book.

To start out, I chose a book that was appropriate for a sixth grade student, but

my student was reading at a fourth grade level. From there, I fulfilled various

components that would best benefit the striving reader: theoretical framework, reading

level, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, writing, assessment.

With vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and writing, I had to state strategies

and cite research from multiple articles that helped support my choices.
Rationale

The learning outcome states: “1B. Delivery. Plan and implement appropriate and

varied instructional practice strategies and methods to differentiate instruction engage

students learners and improve learning.” I understand this outcome as being able to

plan a lesson and implement various instructional strategies for the various types of

learners in our classroom. In this case, it was a book study that would benefit a

struggling reader.

This artifact specifically pairs well with this learning outcome because within this

course, I had to study various instructional strategies for each of the components of this

final project. Within this artifact, I read many research articles to support my learning.

For each of my components, I had to think about what strategies would best fit well for

my hypothetical student, as well as what strategies would be beneficial for my specific

book choice and how it would fit within my instruction.
