Page 4 of 4 Narratives Original Narrative - 07/15/2019 13:47:03 On July 15, 2019, I was dispatched to the Underwood/Petersville Ballfield on a fight call. Lt. Hamilton ¢ and Deputy Tommy Brown responded as well. Lt. Hamilton was first on scene. When I arrived, I was advised that a girl's softball tournament was in progress and the two teams were from Montgomery, ‘AL and Opp, AL. Lee Stanford was the coach for Montgomery and John Lanier was the coach for Opp. I was also advised that Lee Stanford had been assaulted by John Lanier during the game. I spoke with both men and some other coaches that witnessed the fight. Lee Stanford wrote a statement which states that he was walking to the 3rd base coach's box when John Lanier ran over to him and got in his face and told him he was "going to beat your fucking ass.” Stanford stated that he called Lanier "crazy" and began to walk around him. Stanford stated that Lanier then began punching him in the head and threw him down on the ground and continued to punch and kick him in the face. I saw visible marks on Stanford's face and head. Redness and swelling around his right eye and red marks across his forehead. I was unable to collect video/photo evidence at the time due to my body cam was malfunctioning (reported to LA22 for replacement). Stanford advised that he planned to go to a local Dr to be checked for any other injuries. James Milton was also @ coach for the Montgomery team and he wrote a statement es well. Milton stated that he saw Stanford walk from the ist base dugout over toward the 3rd base dugout when Lanier walked up to Stanford and get in his face. Milton stated that he saw Lanier grab Stanford by the throat and pick him up and throw him to the ground. Milton stated that he ran over to help break up the fight and grabbed Stanford to pull him out of the pile. Milton stated that Lanier punched Stanford 3 times and kicked him once before they were seperated. Milton stated that he never saw Stanford hit Lanier. John Lanier was the coach for the Opp team. Lanier also gave a statement. Lanier stated that Stanford told 3 of the mom's from the Opp team that he didn't want to hear any more lip from them. Lanier stated that he told Stanford not to talk to any of his players or parents. Lanier stated that Stanford said he would talk to them any way he wanted. Lanier stated that he told Stanford that if he continued they would have a problem and Stanford then said, “let’s go" and pushed him. Lanier stated that he then grabbed Stanford and took him to the ground. Lanier stated that while on the ground, Stanford continued to try to punch him and he did the same. Talso spoke with Chad Williams, another coach for the Opp team. williams stated that he was just trying to break up the fight. Williams declined to write a statement. Both teams and parents were seperated by Dixie Youth officals. Dixie Youth officals disqualified the team from Opp and they were asked to leave the ballpark. The team from Opp and parents left the ballpark. Lt. Hamilton was advised that members from both teams were staying at the Hampton Inn in Florence and he called and advised FPD of the situation as well. file:///C:/Users/Thomas/AppData/Roaming/Spillman/Mobile/temp/Victim%20Report.1_Pr... 7/15/2019
